    B&T Fiction. “Valerie finally cracked a small smile. She knew Bette had been doing her homework. She’d seen the young woman walking around the museum. And when she hadn’t seen her, she’d had several other direct reports watching the promising young woman and reporting back to Valerie on her progress.

    “Excellent. Tell me, Bette, Gustave Courbet, when was he born?” asked Valerie, her emerald-green eyes studying the young woman before her.”

    “You must be Bette,” said Valerie with a tight, polite smile.

    “Yes, I am. It’s a pleasure to meet you in person,” Bette replied. She and Valerie shared a firm handshake while the older woman’s eyes roamed over Bette. The deep green irises scanning every inch of the young woman; from her sneaker-clad feet to the top of her curly head. As their hands separated, Bette noticed Valerie’s manicured nails matched the crimson pumps and the woman’s thick, dark red-hair fell down just below her shoulders.

    Valerie shook her head. “You need top of the line tailored suits. I want you in heels. I want your hair straightened, your nails manicured and maintained. I want your makeup flawless and I want your presence to scream perfection. Understood?”

    Valerie continued on. “I’ll see you back here in one week. In the meantime, you need to learn everything there is to know about every piece of art in this museum. I’d suggest you spend the week walking around and learning the pieces. You’ll need to know the artists, the artist’s history, their other works, their likes and dislikes. I should be able to throw out a name of a painting and you should be able to tell me all there is to know about it and its creator.”

    Bette nodded. “Understood.”

    The tall red-head stood up and Bette followed suit. “Very well then, I’ll see you here in a week and I fully expect you to evoke ‘astonishing’. Understood?”

    “Understood.”


    Are you all ready for your big day?” asked Tina.

    “I am. I think I’m ready to ‘Evoke Astonishing’. You got my pics, right?”

    Tina smiled even wider. “I did. You look worthy of a good ravishing. You’re beautiful, Bette.”

    “And I’m all yours,” Bette replied.

    And then she yawned. A deep yawn that dug down deep in her belly and made her toes uncurl.

    “Babe, you need to get some sleep. You’ve got a long day tomorrow.”

    “So do you, T. You start in the morning, just like me.”

    “I know. But somehow, I think me working at Alphaville is going to be a little less stressful than you working for that crazy prima donna at The Met.”

    1. Thanks for the update! Love this! I’m glad to see Janice trying to get her family back together, i just hope Bette doesn’t have a cow and understands. I hope Tina and Bette can connect soon, and that Tina does tell Bette about Eric. Tina wouldn’t get jealous of Damon being able to see Bette would she??

    5. Wow, I didn’t remember Bette’s Mom talking about a husband. Does Bette know??? I am glad they are both doing well in their jobs, but hope that they can connect soon. And Tina better tell Bette because otherwise a bad misunderstanding may be underway.

    10. What an amazing update! We sooo missed this story! We see some progress in B’s mom’s life, as well as the friends in LA. Schedules in different locations can be VERY frustrating and stressful. Tina needs to be honest with B. It will strengthen their communication and relationship. As for Valerie’s reaction to B’s improvements in her outlook and knowledge, just proves that she’s pleased with how well B took the advice. Thanks for posting.     11. Tina really should speak to Bette and let her know about Eric, but with the time difference she will just have to do it via E-mail. Tina should also express her love for Bette so she will feel secure and not get all jelous and snippy. PPS

    12. B&T needs to reconnect real soon. I think Tina should tell Bette about Eric’s possible reappearance. At this early stage of their relationship and being 3000 miles away from each other, honesty is a very important factor. Thank you for updating this story, MTS. Beautiful writing as always:)
