The Roommates – Pride & Prejudice: Chapter 5

David’s dark eyes quickly scanned his stepdaughter’s tidy room. When he’d left, they were using that room to store old boxes and workout machines. Janice had transformed the space into a home for her child and as they quietly closed the door and headed down to the master bedroom, he had his first confirmation that maybe things would be different with this new and improved Janice Porter.

    Back in Los Angeles

Alice, Dana, and Tina had grabbed a quick bite to eat, all three still sipping on the shakes that had accompanied their fast-food meal. As they circled around the block of their building, 6 eyes scanned the street for free parking. On their third time around the block, Dana was ready to give up and voiced her doubt in their good luck that evening. Tina, with her eyes intently focused to see into the dark night, through tinted windows, opened her mouth to reply and found her voice had disappeared.

Walking down the street was a pair of long legs she’d known for years. Tina turned around in her back seat and followed his lanky figure as Alice drove on and prepared to turn around again.

“Alice! Go fast. Can you hurry up so we can get back around to see that guy?” she finally said.

“What guy? I’m looking for a spot.”

Dana scanned the street and noted a figure that was hard to make out in the darkness. “That guy?” she asked, Tina.

    “Yeah, that’s him.”

“Do you know him?” asked Dana.

“It’s Eric. As in Eric my ex-boyfriend.”

Alice’s eyes lit up and suddenly the silver bug was speeding around the corner. They made it just inside to see Eric walk into their building and open the door.

“Maybe…maybe he’s visiting a friend,” Dana offered, her voice a whisper, as they crept along the street, all 6 eyes still studying the way he’d gone.

“It looks like he has a key,” Tina whispered in return.

“Maybe it’s a good friend. You loan good friends your keys,” Dana whispered again.

    “Maybe,” Alice whispered.

“Or maybe he lives in our building,” Tina whispered.

“Why are we still whispering?” asked Dana.

Alice’s voice returned to full volume as she finally gave the bug a little gas. “T, I don’t think fate would be so cruel to you. I really don’t think he’s living in our building. I mean, come on. What are the odds of that?”

“What….like a million to one or something,” Dana offered up.

Though Tina listened to their words and wanted to believe the part of her that doubted Eric and she were living in the same building, she couldn’t forget the dozens of unreturned phone calls and voice messages he’d left her.

He’d been trying to communicate with her.

    And now…here he was.

When she was finally alone in her room that evening, Tina pulled out her computer and connected to the wireless network in the apartment. She logged into her email and couldn’t help but smile broadly when she saw Bette’s name in her inbox.

Her hazel eyes followed Bette’s excitement-tinged words and as she read, she could almost hear Bette speaking aloud to her. When she reached the end of the note she hit the reply button and wondered if she should mention that evening’s “Eric Sighting”.

    1. Thanks for the update! Love this! I’m glad to see Janice trying to get her family back together, i just hope Bette doesn’t have a cow and understands. I hope Tina and Bette can connect soon, and that Tina does tell Bette about Eric. Tina wouldn’t get jealous of Damon being able to see Bette would she??

    2. Wow, I didn’t remember Bette’s Mom talking about a husband. Does Bette know??? I am glad they are both doing well in their jobs, but hope that they can connect soon. And Tina better tell Bette because otherwise a bad misunderstanding may be underway.

    3. Good chapter. Hope B&T will connet soon and Tina should tell Bette about eric and hope he not stalker Tina. No drama for B&T please. Please post more, thanks!

    4. What an amazing update! We sooo missed this story! We see some progress in B’s mom’s life, as well as the friends in LA. Schedules in different locations can be VERY frustrating and stressful. Tina needs to be honest with B. It will strengthen their communication and relationship. As for Valerie’s reaction to B’s improvements in her outlook and knowledge, just proves that she’s pleased with how well B took the advice. Thanks for posting. We enjoy so much tiny B and T as they are experiencing new things on their lives. PPS- Lucero & Marsha (From Mexico City)

    5. Tina really should speak to Bette and let her know about Eric, but with the time difference she will just have to do it via E-mail. Tina should also express her love for Bette so she will feel secure and not get all jelous and snippy. PPS

    6. B&T needs to reconnect real soon. I think Tina should tell Bette about Eric’s possible reappearance. At this early stage of their relationship and being 3000 miles away from each other, honesty is a very important factor. Thank you for updating this story, MTS. Beautiful writing as always:)
