The Roommates – Pride & Prejudice: Chapter 5

The Roommates – Pride & Prejudice: Chapter 5

Tina looked at herself one last time in the mirror and smoothed her hands over her jeans. Her boss had made it clear that she needed to be ultra casual if she was going to work for him and so the young intern had struggled to find the right balance in making a good impression and looking cute while not trying too hard to look cute. She hoped that the new jeans she’d bought last week with her mother would do the trick. And as she turned on her left leg to get a profile of how big her butt looked, she wondered if the white polo shirt she’d chosen was too short to cover anything she should be hiding.

Just as she turned to get a view of the other side of her profile, a flying pillow hit Tina’s head.

    “Hey!” she said to Alice.

Alice was all smiles from her bed across the room. “You look fine! Stop freaking out. Can we get out of here already?”

Tina smiled, nervous jitters still rattling her insides. “Yeah, let’s go.”

Alice’s mother had finally bought her a car; a silver VW bug with dark tinted windows. Being extremely excited to have her own set of wheels and still feeling a need to repudiate some of the damages she’d caused to her friendship with Tina over the past year, Alice had volunteered her services to chauffer Tina back and forth to work, with only an occasional contribution of gas money as payment.

“Thanks for the ride, Al,” Tina said, as the pair slid into grey leather seats.

“No problem, Tina. It’s my pleasure,” said Alice, starting the engine. She smiled broadly and said, “Listen to my baby purr.”

    “It’s beautiful.”

“Damn right. Let’s get you to work.”

Tina smiled. “You know where you’re going?”

“Yeah. I do. I’ve been to Alphaville a few times with my mom. When gigs dry up, she starts networking all over the place, you know?”

“Yeah. You start at the magazine on Wednesday?” asked Tina.

    “Yup.”

    “You excited?” asked Tina.

Alice shrugged. “I guess. I just get tired of the grunt work. It’s like….’edit this’, ‘proof read this’, ‘read this and tell me how good I sound’. I wish I could actually do more of reporting.”

    1. Thanks for the update! Love this! I’m glad to see Janice trying to get her family back together, i just hope Bette doesn’t have a cow and understands. I hope Tina and Bette can connect soon, and that Tina does tell Bette about Eric. Tina wouldn’t get jealous of Damon being able to see Bette would she??

    2. Wow, I didn’t remember Bette’s Mom talking about a husband. Does Bette know??? I am glad they are both doing well in their jobs, but hope that they can connect soon. And Tina better tell Bette because otherwise a bad misunderstanding may be underway.

    3. Good chapter. Hope B&T will connet soon and Tina should tell Bette about eric and hope he not stalker Tina. No drama for B&T please. Please post more, thanks!

    4. What an amazing update! We sooo missed this story! We see some progress in B’s mom’s life, as well as the friends in LA. Schedules in different locations can be VERY frustrating and stressful. Tina needs to be honest with B. It will strengthen their communication and relationship. As for Valerie’s reaction to B’s improvements in her outlook and knowledge, just proves that she’s pleased with how well B took the advice. Thanks for posting. We enjoy so much tiny B and T as they are experiencing new things on their lives. PPS- Lucero & Marsha (From Mexico City)

    5. Tina really should speak to Bette and let her know about Eric, but with the time difference she will just have to do it via E-mail. Tina should also express her love for Bette so she will feel secure and not get all jelous and snippy. PPS

    6. B&T needs to reconnect real soon. I think Tina should tell Bette about Eric’s possible reappearance. At this early stage of their relationship and being 3000 miles away from each other, honesty is a very important factor. Thank you for updating this story, MTS. Beautiful writing as always:)
