The Roommates – Pride & Prejudice: Chapter 6

“Don’t worry, Bette. It will pay off. Just be patient. How are things at The Met?”

    “Extraordinary.”

Sidney chuckled. “Extraordinary? Who says that?”

“Sid, my boss says it. She’s ultra chic, ultra professional, and ultra Type A. But she’s brilliant and I’m trying to learn as much as I can. She’s phenomenal. I have to look extra perfect when I’m working. Nails done. Hair done. I have to wear these tailored suits and everything. She actually told me I needed to ‘evoke astonishing’ with my look.”

    “So did you?”

    “Evoke astonishing?”

    “Yes.”

Bette smiled. “Yes I did. And I have to tell you, I love it. I didn’t think I would love it so much, but I do. I love wearing these power suits. I love feeling and looking like a winner when I walk into a room. It’s kind of a power trip. And then, there’s this beautiful, priceless art. I had to go through the museum and learn just about everything about every piece.”

“Wow. That’s crazy. But you sound so excited about it. I’m so happy for you, Bette. So, you think you want your own gallery some day?”

“I know I do. I love this, Sidney. I’m going to be so disappointed to go back to being just a student in the fall.”

Sidney chuckled. “Well, hopefully you’ll be able to re-introduce yourself to the ‘just students’ atmosphere when you get back to campus. I hope it’s not too painful.”

“You’re so silly. You know what I mean. How are your drawings coming along?”

Bette wasn’t able to see the warm smile that slipped across Sidney’s coral lips, but she could feel the happiness in her friend’s words. “Great. It’s so freeing. I have drawings everywhere. My dad’s working on fixing up a space for me to draw outside in the garden. I love working with natural light and he’s convinced I’m talented. When I’m not working, I’m drawing.”

Sidney was spending the summer as a counselor at a summer art camp for autistic children and adults.

“That’s incredible, Sid. I think you’ve found your calling.”

“I think so too. It just kind of freaks me out.”

“What do you mean? Why?” asked Bette.

    1. welcome back, you know I am always waiting for your updates… So now we have the Tibette individual temptation. Thats ok, I believe in our favorite couple. It will work itself out!

    2. I’m glad you’re back! And I’m glad you are well. Now, on to the story. I can understand Tina’s reaction to Mark. She may be attracted to him if she is already worried how she would react should they see each other again. I just hope she don’t act on it. Hold in there Tina, Bette is coming home. Thanks for posting. :)

    3. I just caught up with this story and I really like it. Just hope these two don’t have nay problems to deal with by being apart and lonely for each other. They really need to see each other very soon. Great chapter. PPS

    4. You posted! Yaaaayyy!!! Wow! We were so happy to see you updating this amazing story, which has always been close to our hearts. Thanks! You can’t imagine how excited we were to find this interesting chapter about our young B&T fav couple! Hmmm However, we see trouble in paradise, as clouds of uncertainty move B&T to turbulent waters. Therefore, we are going to fasten our seatbelts and accept the ride you want to take us along. We know that, deep inside, you are a true TiBetter, like us, and you will always find a way for them to be together. We really missed you! PPS Lucero & Marsha (JC’s Salsa Aunties)

    5. Now don’t u go breaking our gyrlz up or keeping them separated by trips to Europe with Sydney or anything neither is secure enuff in the relationship 4 that sort of thing yet. Get Bette on the plane to T for the weekend. That’s the right track. PPS

    6. This is not boding well for Bette and Tina. Usually with these type of situations the romance ends in due time. I sure hope that is not the case for Bette and Tina.

    7. I just read this whole story right from the beginning of roommates through to here in the past couple of days, and i have to say, it’s awesome! i love the way you capture the emotions of two young women so perfectly, and it’s interesting to see how they’re dealing with the hard seperation. i can’t wait for ou to continue!

    8. welcome back…i sincerely hope that B&T will survive anything and will be together soon…when Bette flies to LA, i hope there’s no surprises on Tina’s end

    9. This is another one of my favorite stories. After all that Bette and Tina has been through to be together it seems like forces out of there control is putting a wedge between them. I can’t wait till they reconnect and remember the love they have can outlast the distance between them. looking forward to the next chapter coming soon hopefully :)

    10. Wow, I’m so glad you resurrected this story, MTS. Imo, this is one of the best long-running B&T fics in this site. And your post fell on my birthday. So thank you for adding a cherry to my already decadent cake. :> But you know what, I second Eddy’s drama fatigue. Yeah, life is hard enough that when I get the chance to pop in here, I can’t help but favor lighthearted, sugar-coated B&T stuff with a semblance of substance. I’m really worried about Tina’s reaction to the attention from men that she’s getting. OMG, please, please, no retreading of S3 storylines. Not to mention Bette’s cloud of doubt, her deep conversation with Sidney and her failure to communicate with Tina. Shit, they are growing as individuals but growing apart. If I’m not mistaken, this is usually the recipe for relationship disaster. And that’s really sad. *sigh* I’m going to read the bunch of sweet chapters you’ve written in the past to drive away the worries in my head. Thank you again for this update, MTS, and please post whenever you can. Cheers! :>

    11. Welcome back!! I was so happy(doing a happy dance) when I saw your post. I love this story so much. I know there will always be drama in life but in our Tibette world, things do work out in favor of our girls. Thank you for sharing your amazing talent with us, your loyal fans. Post real soon, please.
