The Sound Track of Our Lives

Charlotte turns to walk out the door. Pausing at the door frame, she knows that she needs to walk out. She can’t help but pause. This is the end. When she walks out this door she knows that when it closes behind her she will be walking away from the last thirteen years of her life. She lowers her head in a silent farewell.

Suddenly she feels Georgia behind her. The taller woman rests her chin on the top of Charlotte‘s head and her long arms wrap themselves around the petite woman in front of her. Both women take deep breaths committing the smell of each other to memory.

“Goodbye, love. I wish you happiness,” With that she was gone. She walked back to her desk.

“Goodbye, Georgia.” Charlotte walked out not looking back.

“Hey you have reached Dana Fairbanks. Leave a message and I will call you back.” Beep.

“Damn it! This is an emergency why can’t I get a hold of anyone? Dane, call me as soon as you get this! I am in trouble.”

Alice hangs up the phone and begins to pace.

“I have called both Charlotte and Tina, no answers. Shane refused to help. I can’t get a hold of Dana, what am I going to do? Think, Pieszecki, think. Ah ha! Carmen and Jenny!”

                She franticly dials Carmen’s number.

“I wonder who this is.” Carmen studies the number contemplating whether she should pick it up.

Shane leans forward to look at the number. “She must really be desperate. May I?”

Carmen shrugs and hands the phone over. She glances at Jenny for an explanation. Jenny just shrugs, at a loss.

“Alice, forget it. They don’t want to get mixed up in this either. You are on you own.” Shane holds the phone away from her ear. On the other end Alice is cursing like a sailor. “Bye, Alice.” She hangs up Alice still screaming into the phone.

“AHHHHHH!!! I am screwed and not in a good way!” Alice looks at the clock; she is running out of time. In a panic she dials the only number she has left.

    1. That was great. I loved the way you went from humor to heartbreak. Maybe Alice will get so scared by this prank that Tina and Charlotte are pulling on her that she will quit interfering in other peoples business. WHAT AM I CRAZY–THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN! Have a great day.
