The Spies: Choosing
"We can’t open any doors, understood honey?" Lenore said.
"Yes mommy," Alice whispered back.
Lenore pulled out her precious glass knife and pressed it firmly against the door. She pressed it tightly and cut a perfect circle that was big enough for Alice.
She caught the glass gracefully as it fell into her hand. "Now Alice," Lenore said handing her a small spray can, "don’t touch any of the red lazer beams. Just go straight to the safe and crack it just like I taught you. Once you’re in, make the hole with your lazer beam. I’ll be waiting behind it with the sack."
"Okay mommy," Alice said.
"Be careful," Lenore said giving Alice a kiss on the cheek and hugging her close. Alice gulped then kissed Lenore on the cheek before scurrying into the hole. She used the spray to spray the air and reveal the red lazer beams shooting out from everywhere.
Alice took a deep breath then started slithering in between the beams professionally, just like her mother had taught her. Almost effortlessly Alice was at the safe door.
She pressed her ear to the door and started twisting the lock to find the combination. She heard the first click and saw that it was 6. She turned the other way slowly until she heard the click on 27. Slowly she moved the other way until she heard the click on 11.
The large door opened with a low hiss that pushed Alice back slightly. Tentatively she walked into the safe and shut the door behind her. The room was encased in metal and had piles and piles of money everywhere.
Alice moved towards the wall where she knew her mother was waiting on the other side with the sacks for the money. She pulled her little lazer beam that her mother invented and slowly started drilling a hole in the wall. Her hand was steady and professional even though she was only ten years old.
It took a few rounds but eventually Alice reached the last layer of wall before reached her mother. The metal hole wobbled and the piece fell in towards Alice who was too small to actually catch it. She jumped out of the way and the piece made a loud clank on the metal floor.
