    The Start – Chapter 6

    Chapter 6

Bette drove through the streets of LA as if she were in a daze. She had left Tina’s the previous afternoon and not been able to stop grinning since. She felt like the victim of cliché personified and as much as she chastised herself, could not stop it. She hummed along to the music on the radio, strumming her fingers on the top of the steering wheel. Her mind kept being interrupted by memories. Thoughts of Tina filled her head as she started to become consumed with a need to see the blonde again. She’d never had this before. All the other women she had been with seemed to show this need to spend time in her company after they had been together but she had never really understood it, preferring her own space and enjoying a catch up with her friends. Tina was different. She felt overpowered with desire again, this primal urge to be with her as soon as possible. She was also nervous about what would happen when they saw each other at work. How different will it be? Oh, God please don’t let her regret it… her normal Porter charm, for once, seemed completely phased. She was interrupted by the sound of her phone ringing. She tapped the Bluetooth headset she had in her ear to answer the call.

    ‘Bette Porter.’

‘You will not believe what fucking happened to me.’ Alice giggled down the phone. Bette smiled enjoying the distraction from her own insecurities.

‘I probably won’t but I’m sure you’re just about to tell me. Oh and is this in regards to your SOS text you sent yesterday?’ She grinned knowing she would be in trouble for not replying.

‘Yea, thanks for the help, you were really great on that one. Remind me not to call you when a zombie apocalypse hits ‘cause I can be damn sure to rely on you to help me!’

    Bette laughed.

‘Anyway, back to my story. You know you stood me up for coffee yesterday morning?’

‘Alice, I did not stand you up, we had talked about possibly meeting for coffee but nothing was set in stone.’ Bette retorted, She frowned as she navigated an intersection.

‘Geez, take it easy, I wasn’t nagging, I was just saying. Anyway, as you obviously know, Dana turned up, but completely minus Lara and we like totally had the most amazing day together. We talked for hours, first of all at The Planet, and then we went for a stroll along the boulevard. It was nice, you know? To spend some time with her alone. It felt like we hadn’t done that since pre-Tanya.’ Alice’s voice became a little quieter at the soft confession.
