They had been in the air for around three hours, Bette had given into sleep about an hour in but was now awake, quietly watching Tina, but trying not to let it show. She quickly glanced across the aisle at Kate and smiled. Kate’s eyes were closed but by the look of concentration on her face she was obviously listening intently to something in her MP3 player. When Bette turned her attention back to Tina she noticed the furrowed brow and a look of agitation that Bette knew was never a good sign.
“T?” she gently questioned.
“Yeah.” replied Tina, while continuing to look out the window.
“Is everything OK?”
“Of course, why wouldn’t it be?”
“I don’t know, but something’s not right. You look anxious about something and you keep playing with your ring. Turning it around your finger like you’re not used to it being there.”
“I’m not used to it being there.”
“That’s a good point.” replied Bette, wondering if she was going to get anything of substance out of Tina about what was happening.
“Do you know what the problem with this flight is?”
“No, but I’m willing to be enlightened.”
“Too much time to think.”
“You could try and get some sleep.” suggested Bette.
“But then I wouldn’t get to think about you.” smiled Tina, touching Bette’s hand.
“OK, I think I’m confused because from what you just said thinking is a problem and yet you don’t want to go to sleep because then you don’t get to think about me.”
“I never said it made any sense.”
Bette sat there, confounded, by this conversation while Tina returned to looking out the window and flexing the fingers of her left hand, as if trying to get her ring to fit properly. After a few minutes of not saying anything Tina turned her body to move closer to Bette. Instinctively Bette moved so that she could put her arm around Tina’s shoulder, holding her tight.
“I’m sorry.” whispered Tina.
“Because?”
“You shouldn’t have to guess at what I’m trying to tell you.”
“It’s OK….”
“No, it’s not. The ring, when I first took it off I used to touch the skin that had been hidden underneath it for all that time, it felt different, softer. I used to look at my hand, almost in disbelief that it wasn’t there anymore, and now…I guess it takes time Bette. I never knew how much this ring meant to me until today, to have it back, where it belongs, it means more than I can say.”

CG, What a wonderful ride this brilliant story has been. Bette and Tina started apart but where unable to live their respective lives fully. Thank you so much for realistically bringing them back together in this gentle and loving manner. Kate has been a real star and confindante to both parties. This is what I want to see occur in Season 4. So much gratitude and enjoyment has been had over the last 36 chapters and 6 months. Please continue with your writing as it brings such joy to so many.
