The Trouble With Love Chapter Thirty Six

“They say it’s good for you to walk around on long distance flights.” said Kate, as Bette approached her.

“You don’t strike me as the paranoid kind.”

“There’s paranoia and there’s wanting to live another day, and besides you‘re walking around now as well.” laughed Kate.

“I got up to talk to you, not because I’m worried about life threatening conditions.”

    “Is Tina sleeping?”

“Yes. I don’t know if…maybe we should have taken some time, stayed in London for a few more days. She’s been working all this time and I know she’s keen to keep working once we get back, there doesn’t seem to be any time for an adjustment period.”

“You’ll find time, and I don’t know if I should be telling you this but, Tina asked me to clear her schedule for the next two weeks. She had back to back projects lined up, this one and then one in New York, for reasons that I guess are obvious I think she was trying to spend as little time in LA as possible, but that’s changed now.”

“How come I’m only finding out about this now?”

“I think she planned to tell you but it seemed to matter less and less the more progress you made and I only changed it in the last two days. There’s a delicate balancing act going on for her. She wants to give you what you want, which I’m thinking is the time together to get yourselves back on steady ground, but she still wants to keep that air of independence, that her whole life doesn’t revolve around making you happy, even though it probably does. Have you noticed how much more confident she is? In six weeks she’s gone from someone who only finished half of her sentences to someone who…gets what she wants, and on her terms.”

“There has been a change in her, even from when we were still together. I guess working suits her more than either of us ever thought it did.”

    “Working and being with you.”

“I can’t believe I almost lost her.” said Bette, looking back to where Tina was sitting.

“Fortunately, in this case, almost doesn’t count.”

“Yeah, you’re right. What will you do when you get back to LA?”

Thank you so much for realistically bringing them back together in this gentle and loving manner. Kate has been a real star and confindante to both parties.
