    Tina — Plan B; pt. 61

“Thanks for this, Alice.” I tossed the bag into the trunk of Alice‘s car before scooting into the passenger seat.

“Hey, what are hardworking friends for, anyway?” Alice pulled away from the curb, dodging around a pedestrian and a parking lot shuttle.

I gripped the armrest a little tighter, but couldn’t help call her on what she’d said. ‘Hardworking?”

“Hard working. Hardly working. Almost the same.” Alice shrugged, which made her driving a little more erratic.

I looked out the window, at LA zooming by. “I’m wrong to be worried, to come home early, right?”

    “Well”

“It’s just, I don’t know, but there’s something about Jess and Bette together.” Was that it? Or, should I ask myself, was that all? Fear of being supplanted as a mother.

“Look, TK, I don’t know what you think, but if anything, you should be happy to come back to a house with no chalk marks on the floor.”

“I’m sure it wasn’t that bad, Alice.”

“Not that bad? Jess with Bette started somewhere along the line of surly, sulky, and obnoxious. You know, every bizarre-world dwarf there is.”

Lovely image of my beloved child that brings up. I do know, however, that Jess can pull an attitude when she sets her mind to it. And, around Bette, it did seem that her mind was set often. “They were getting chummy, I thought. Bette and Jess.”

    “So that’s the problem.”

    “What?”

“The ‘my daughter likes Bette’ problem.”

“That’s not it.” As if Alice doesn’t know I’m lying.

She mashed the horn as she wove the car through a group of motorcyclists. I returned my gaze to the side window; being a passenger didn’t seem as bad as knowing what was coming.

“Sure it’s not,” Alice muttered. “Sure thing.”

While I wasn’t sure what I wanted the answer to be, honestly, I did give voice to the question. “Jess really hates Bette?”

    “Now that’s a tough one.”

Since when isn’t my life as it intersects with Bette Porter not a ‘tough one.’

“I think,” Alice started, “that Jess doesn’t quite now how she rates with Bette in the picture.”

    4. welcome back, longed for your story but waited ever so patiently, all you writers are entitled to your own lives after all. Great Chapter glad to have you and this story back.

    5. Welcome back, pseud. Nice to see your story continued.

Loved the remark about “…no chalk marks on the floor”. Tina’s lucky that Alice isn’t driving her to the county jail or the jeuvenile detention center.

Good old Alice, giving Tina just enough information for her to fill in the rest of the picture with her own brush strokes.

Tina needed to understand Jess’ insecurity in her place in the pecking order. Now, she can assuage Jess with more confidence.

Tina needed to give voice to her feelings about Bette. They might have only been voices in her head, but at least making the effort.

Curious to see just how much Bette and Jess reveal to Tina.

Excellent chapter. Looking forward to more!

    6. Omigosh! I had to clean my contacts to make sure I was indeed seeing a psued post! I hope you had a good fill of bon-bons.

Great story; I liked how you had Alice driving – traffic and Tina crazy! Can’t wait for the drama of Tina being home early. Will Bette and Jessica mis-interpet why Tina is home early?

Hope for most posts from you.

Thank you for returning and posting!

    9. Well it is good to see you back, writing! I just re-read some of your past fics and thought I was seeing things when I saw this update! Nice to see Tina back in scene. Funny convero with Alice. (I always wondered if canon conversation would run this way) It will be interesting when she sees how things have turned out! Hope the next post won’t be soo long!

    10. Hey Pseud: If loving you is wrong, I don’t wanna do right.
And if giving you a fanfic award means you immediately go away for a month and don’t post, then you’re not getting any more. I don’t care how good your future stories are.

      So, there…
