    To Die Standing Chptr. 19

    “I’m afraid.”

“Good.” Trish plainly answered bringing a sad smiling scoff to Tina’s face. “Love should scare you, if you’re not afraid of losing this love than it’s not worth holding onto.”

Tina gave a tight lipped smile to that statement and nodded her head, “I was talking about you and Aaron.”

    ……………………………

Trish talked to Tina for quite a while about how she felt about Tina’s new relationship. The truth was that she was worried about her. Her son had been gone for a while and Tina’s overall demeanor when she came home was always somewhere else. She just assumed that it was with Rick and not here with them. Come to find out she was partially right. Tina’s thoughts were with Rick but a great deal of them were with Bette. It petrified Trish to think that somehow their relationship was in danger because Tina had found herself in love with someone who was not their son.

In talking to Tina, Trish was very honest. She’d thought that Tina being in a relationship again would hurt more than she’d thought possible and to a degree it did. But she also had to realize that Tina was young and that her life was hers alone, she could not place her expectations onto Tina any more than those she loved placed expectations on her. She’d faced adversity in marrying a white man whose family seemed set to break them apart, but she’d followed her own instincts and allowed her heart to dictate her actions, just like Tina. In a way it saddened her to think that their relationship wasn’t strong enough for Tina to be honest with her. She’d told Tina this and they talked in length about Tina’s fears and Trish being the natural mother that she was assuaged Tina’s fears and eventually laid them to rest.

“When I say that I love you, you have to know how unconditional that is. We would never try to hold you to a standard that is impossible to live up to. For you to think that we would want you to live your life alone, is hurtful.”

“I’m sorry I lied to you for so long. I just didn’t want this to become a breaking stone in our relationship.”

    1. Thanks for the update. I’m so glad Tina told Trish about Bette. Now she needs to open to Bette about her fear of losing her. She can’t keep those feelings hidden from her and have a truly close relationship.

    2. I love, love ,love this story. Its so incredibly beautiful that i find myself rereading pages 2 or 3 times trying to gain a deeper understanding of these characters…and i do. Your writing reminds me of why i enjoy being such an avid reader.

    3. Just catching up…great update. I love the way this is moving along. So glad they are finally able to “love” one another the way they should. I can’t wait for Bette to meet Trish and Arron. :) PPS

    4. Wonderful chapter. So happy that our girls can now freely love one another and have a relationship and not have to hide it. They can now also bask in that wonderful glow that all lovers have. Thanks for the post.
