    Bette followed Tina up the steps of the Four Seasons and she found herself in an unusual situation. Normally she was the confident one who was leading Tina wherever they went, but not today. Today it was Tina not Bette who was in control and Bette didnt know how she felt about that. Bette walked cautiously as they went up to the lobby and she waited patiently while Tina checked in and got her room key. After a silent elevator ride Bette took a deep breath as she followed Tina into the room.

    Tina set her stuff down next to the bed and turned to Bette with a smile on her face. Bette returned the warm smile and sat down next Tina on the bed. Both women stared straight ahead for a few minutes before they both spoke at the same time.

    So hows New York?

    How was your flight?

    They shared a laugh at their blooper and for a split second Tina felt a surreal calm wash over her. This is the way it was supposed to be. Just the two of them sharing a laugh and a moment together, just like old times. Tina could feel the flood of memories come rushing back as she listened to Bette talk about New York and art and everything in between. Tina took a second to admire Bette and how even in the midst of all the confusion with her being there and their semi-weird break up that Bette was still Bette. Its one of those reassuring things that happen, like the sun rising and setting every day that reminds you that things are normal and that everything will be okay.

    Tina?

    Huh?

    Bette smiled warmly at Tina as she repeated her question.

    I said its wonderful to see you. And I was just wondering what did bring you all the way out here?

    Tina gulped as she looked at Bette and tried to explain her situation. In truth what had brought Tina out to NY was plain and simple. Bette. Tina looked at Bette wearily.

    UmwellI just needed a vacation and so I thought since Ive never been here Id come and see what all the fuss was about
