Still in the car
Tina stared at her phone and then at Dana. Its Bette, Tina whispered as is it was a secret.

Answer it, Dana returned in a whisper.

You! Tina thrust the phone at Dana causing her to swerve.

***** no! Dana batted at the phone. Just talk to her and stop being so silly.

Shane snickered in the back seat and Tina reached back and attempted to swat her.

I thought you were sleeping? Tina asked rhetorically.

I was until your damn phone woke me up, so answer it will ya? Shane growled and adjusted herself in the seat.

Hello? Tina cautiously answered. No reply. Hello? Tina asked again, thinking she was in a dead spot.

H, hi Tee, its Bette. No answer. Tina? Bette asked again and Tina held her breath for a second to recompose.

Hey! Hi Bette, Tina replied trying not to sound suspicious.

Uhm, hey, Bette felt cheated because she hadnt expected an answer. Uhm, I wasnt expecting you to answer, Bette revealed.

Why not? Tina made a face and Dana mouthed, what? Tina shrugged her shoulders.

Well, because I thought you guys might still be in the club, Bette tried to cover up.

Were on our way back home, Tina volunteered. Is something wrong?

Hey Bette! Dana yelled out.

Tell Dana I said hi, Bette said with a smile. No, nothings wrong, Bette switched her attention back to Tina.

Thats good, Tina struggled for something to say. So? Tina inquired, hoping Bette would say what was on her mind.

Bette let out a nervous laugh, Im actually a little embarrassed to admit this Tina and would have preferred to have gotten your voice mail, Bette sounded like a shy school girl and it made Tina laugh.

Aww come on Bette, Tina said sweetly, You can tell me. It cant be that bad, Tina looked at Dana for support.

Yeah, Bette, Dana encouraged. Whatever youre talking about just blurt it out, Dana teased. Its not like youre strangers right?! Dana burst out laughing.

Bette shed never called and had dealt with his dream on her own, but shed already opened Pandoras Box and had to go on now.
