    Twisted Triangles – Ch. 45

    Chapter 45 – Bette’s POV

I arrived at The Planet first, as I was coming from work. Tina said that she would be riding with Grace, and Eric would arrive later, maybe after his shift. Part of me still can’t believe that they went for this. I had prepared for that discussion to go on for a lot longer than it did. But after taking a step back, it did appear that everyone wanted to stop talking about it as soon as possible.

“Hey pook—I mean, hey baby” Grace says entering the café with Tina trailing behind her. Grace and I working on her not calling me “pookie” at all. I think that it’s working.

“Gracie, baby hi” I answering back giving her a full body hug and kiss. Hopefully she can’t sense the overwhelming anxiety that I have over this first meeting.

“Well, here she is.” Grace announces waving her hands around Tina as if she is a prize on a game show.

“Grace, Bette knows who I am. No need to present me.”

“I know your highness. I just thought a little levity might help.” She turns to me “you should have seen her babe, she was fiddling with the radio, twirling her watch. Ugh you think she was on her way to a blind date or something.”

Tina and I both laugh a little too loudly and hard at the joke. Clearly Grace was right. Tina was nervous, but I just outed myself as being the same.

“Ok, weirdos. If you need me I’ll be all the way over there” She said pointing to the counter only a few feet away. “I’ll be reading sides. Glamorous, I know” She remarked holding up a small stack of papers.

“Alright, thanks Grace.” Tina says with finality in her voice. Grace turns to leave, but not before kissing my cheek and whispering, “Behave” in my ear.

I motion for Tina to take a seat first, before taking the seat across from her. I smile at her, but she remains quiet, avoiding eye contact.

“So, um Tina how are you?”

“Bette. I don’t know if I can do this.” She says quickly still without looking over to me.

“Well try, T. Because it’s what we’ve got right now.” I tell her with certainty.
