    Twisted Triangles – Ch. 45

“Then what, what’s the end game? What are we doing?” I can’t answer that, so I don’t and instead wait for her to continue. “You told me the first night I came back that we would do what we had to to be together. And is that what we’re doing? Is fucking my best friend your idea of a path to reconciliation?”

“Is fucking my brother?” She blinks, clearly surprised. “I’m sorry T, I didn’t mean to be so harsh. But it’s not so simple.”

“I told you that. But you were so sure that night. What changed?” A good question. But honestly, I didn’t come here to have this conversation. I thought that we would just have a friendly non-land mine conversation. I’m such a fool.

    “I don’t know.”

“Do you have feelings for Grace?” She asks me.

“Do you have feelings for my brother?” I ask back trying to buy time.

“Don’t do that. Don’t answer a question with a question. Please, Bette tell me. Do you have feelings for her?”

“Yes. Yes, I do” Which is the truth. I at least owe Tina that. As much as I didn’t want to know, I had to ask, “Do you have feelings for Eric?”

“Yes. In some ways he saved me Bette. He really did. I don’t know if I would’ve made it out there sometimes if it weren’t for him.” Score one for my brother.

“Well, bully for him. You know I tried to do that first. Travelling there to come and get you. I did it first.”

“Bette, don’t pout.” She says smiling. I was being serious, but it didn’t come out more petulant and I laughed.

Suddenly Dana arrives at our table distractedly glancing at her phone. “Hey Bette, hey Tina” Dana announced. It became immediately clear that the two of us sitting together was strange and pointing back and forth to the two of us while remaining mute emphasized her surprise even more. “Are you two…are you…what?!”

“Dane.” I say throwing my head towards Grace. “We’re just chatting. Please stop drawing attention to us.”

“Too late, she’s looking” Tina says casually.

“I don’t understand. What is this? Did they finally let you two off your leases? Because that’s crazy!! You both are, I mean from what I heard from Alice… oh god, has anyone told Alice, yet?”
