"Thanks for dinner," Bette said as she lifted her glass to her lips. "A quiet evening is just what I needed to relax before my interview tomorrow."
"Oh that’s right, you have that meeting at MOCA don’t you?" Helena asked. She leaned back in her chair and quietly contemplated Bette’s opportunity.
"Yes, tomorrow afternoon," Bette said. "I’m supposed to meet Alice, Shane and Carmen for a mid-morning breakfast and then I have to be at the museum by one o’clock."
"Maybe I can manage to meet you for breakfast too," Helena suggested. "I mean, I can show up a bit late and I should think someone would invite me to join you."
Bette pondered this idea for a moment. They were certainly nowhere near the time when they should start telling anyone about their liaison, but no one would question an impromptu meeting.
"We’re supposed to meet at around 10:30, so if you walked in around"
"Say closer to 11 o’clock?" Helena asked.
"That wouldn’t look suspicious," Bette agreed. She stood. "Shall we get these plates cleared?"
"We can put things in the dishwasher," Helena said. "But there’s no need to be fastidious. The maid is coming in tomorrow afternoon."
They cleaned every dish in sight, mainly because they were both at something of a loss as to how they might interact once the task was completed.
After drying the last knife and placing it in the appropriate drawer, Bette swirled the dishtowel she was holding and snapped it playfully at Helena’s butt, inadvertently placing a direct hit on her cheek.
"Bette, did you do that on purpose," Helena asked as she turned to see Bette holding her hand over her open mouth, shocked that she had made such a crisp contact.
"That’s never worked for me before," Bette stuttered. "I didn’t think it ever would."
Helena saw quite plainly that Bette did not mean to actually do what she did. But she had been presented with an opportunity to be playful and flirtatious, and Helena took advantage.
She backed Bette up against the counter and placed her hands against the top surface on either side of her body.

Ah, Shane has the eagle eyes. Good thing she’s so discreet, which is really more than I can say for Bette and Helena at the moment. This sure is fun. Waiting for the next chapter.

Yeah, I echo what funnyone said. I ALMOST feel sorry for Tina. She pretty much lost her only ally. But then I remember what Tina is doing and I’m like eh fuck her.

JKS,Another stupendous chapter for your good self. This story has real heart and soul. It merits all of the praise and plaudits bestowed upon it. You have created a minor miracle in delivering a stroy where it is completely believeable that Helena and Bette would unite and create a wonderful pairing. The ‘lover’s tiff’ was brilliantly played out as Shane aka Yoda realized the reality of the tension before her. As usual the rest of the gang where somewhat further behind. Helena’s dismissal of Tina was honest and had to be done. Only time will tell if this is the right path to take for all the gals. Keep ’em coming as this story has created a universe that deserves further exploration. Thank you for your talent and your words. Your Loyal Fan.
oh shane, maybe she can talk to tina and give her some of her yoda wisdom and if tina will find out about helebette, maybe she’ll be jealous and decides to win bette back? i’m still hoping for B&T, i’m hopeless like that…i want bette to be happy and i like this helena a lot, but they are really similar in personalities with their alphiness and control that i don’t think they can last

Ah Bettehel have found their way back into my heart. Yes they are now hellahot again. deep sigh, Tina who? I love the fact that you have some class I would have already been throwing this union in Tina’s face. But then again tact has never been one of my strong points. Great, great great story. Someone who instead of bringing Bette down is building her up for that I luve Helena.

I do hope that you do not keep us waiting long for the next chapter. i love the way Helena and Bette’s relationship is developing. How long will it be before their relationship is outted, i wonder.

This was PERFECT!!!! I loved the way Helena was able to back Bette down from her anger over Helena wanting to step in on her behalf, as well as Bette’s ability to explain to Helena why she wants to get the job on her own. Really well done!!! With this chapter you showed very realistically how two alphas can butt heads, yet how they can also both respect the alphaness in the other, enough to be really appreciative of the others intentions, and goals. And, then how that respect can turn into a physical reaction, causing their attraction towards each other to go to another level. Like I said, really well done! Thanks!!
Yoda has in fact seen something imaginable happen in hell, however I think its safe to say it did not freeze. I can’t wait to see Shane confront Bette on the matter, or see what Bette has to say. I think of everyone, Shane will understand that more than love, Bette needs to be able to trust in someone, and to be loved.Please post soon, this story is by far my favorite in Fan Fiction right now.
y’all i’ve had a big ass revelation! what if…….and i mean IF, ms. cleo, helena’s psycic, was reffering to bette? i mean…..helping out w big ordeal (hmm) and last i checked bette was a brunette, changeable 9her attitude 4 example) and i do believe that the blue saab ain’t out of commision……but hey this is my theory right? and its a good thing you write helbette ( my new name 4 these two) so well, i think i might be right, now don’t leave us hangin, and have shane shut up 4 a while….cuz i like where this is heading. good chapter update soon
Brilliant, again. I love the subtle yet unmistakable realism in your characters — the growing sympathy for Bette from the others, Shane’s perception, Bette and Helena colliding and Helena deftly diffusing it and Tina’s isolation… I suspect that that would be the hardest to write about but is perhaps one of the truisms that I think Tina’s going to have to face… the girls may have been able to accept Helena and they may have been able to deal with Bette’s affair but I don’t think they’ll know what to do with — insert man’s name here. Tina going “back” to men is going to do more than make them angry, I would suspect – it’s going to leave them confused, disheartened and on decidedly uncommon ground with her — Helena included. Nice way to include Helena, by the way — beautifully, beautifully done! (of course, on the show, no one will probably notice or care that Tina’s with a man). You have a way, a gift … keep it up!
Another very enjoyable chapter and for me a very necessary escape from the gloom of S3 and the spoilers. One request – tho’ probably not needed – don’t turn T into a total bitch(leave that to IC).
Hmmm. Subtle, yet telling: “I’m going to order that next time,” Helena said as she gazed at Bette’s breakfast. “It looks delectable.” Seems to me there’s some psycological profundity going on here. Whatever looks good to Bette, Helena desires. I see Momma P.
Helena, at the junction between Bette and Tina…what’s next, will she be brokering the custody arrangement? I kinda hated the way she left Tina dangling. I think Bette is too independent for Helena and eventually her need to run things will turn Bette off. In the meanwhile, your story is a novel escape. Thanks! P.S.: Yoda knows all…I think her intuition is part of the survival skills she learned as a foster child. Go, Yoda!
Good Lord..I am truly enjoying this story!!! I too ALMOST felt sorry for Tina but then I just had a flashback to last week’s episode, and the ALMOST feeling vanished. Although Tina should have someone to talk to as well. Can’t wait until everyone finds out!!! This is reminding about a song By Escape entitled “Your my little secret” By all means please continue!!!
I have to agree with every chapter youve made these two more believable,tho im still not 100% sure of Helena!!!maybe its just me but while i do believe her attraction to “The Hot One” that would be Bette!!lol i cant help but not quite trust her yet …Tina really isnt an issue in this story god luv her!but im lovin it!!!

To a great extent I don’t get the attention received or assertion made regarding two strong personalities not meshing. In short, the ‘Alpha’ reasoning doesn’t hold water for me. In my opinion, there are infinite personality matches in working relationships. It works if you’re willing to make it work. Anyway, I thought this was an excellent display of two independent and confident individuals expressing themselves clearly while having the psychological intellect to recognize their inclination to be so. Yes Shane…hell has indeed frozen over. Thank you.
JKS…You’ve got the goods. You started with an unlikely pairing but due to YOUR skill as a writer made this seem totally credible, sexy, authentic and right. If Shane is intuitive, it is b/c you made her that way through her dialogue and thought processes. IC could do the same thing and have Tina come to her senses and recommit to the relationship. The spoilers are so OTT that they are laughable. Can’t wait to read your next chapter. Brilliant work!

Surprisingly I like Helena and Bette. Helena will learn that Bette is her own woman Don’t mess with her job nor to much in her business. She can love and leave you just as fast. Tina is a wee bit stupid. Just hope she is happy. thanks

Very well written, however … it feels like there is something missing ? For want of a more comprehensive commentary, there seems a lack of warmth in the situation at hand ? Perhaps its just me, but, although “reactions” are a natural element of life, these two burgeoning lovers seem to lack the vision to see the reality of their surroundings. Perhaps that is your intention. A pleasure to read.

This is such a great story. How slick is Helena in getting Bette to forget that she was even mad at her a few seconds ago. What lover’s spat? The only thing they have to worry about now is Shane; her antenna are up and out and she can see the sparks flying b/w these 2 hotties. How soon before they are outed tothe rest of the group? And how will Tina react when she finds out, not that she deserves any sympathy. Keep the chapters coming.
