    What About Love? chapter 2

Chapter 2 – Too Much Love Will Kill You

As I look across the crowded bar it soon becomes obvious that it’s another typical Friday night at the Planet. The dance floor is filled with dancing couples and several hunters swagger around the room on the prowl for their latest girl. Shane, Jenny, Helena and Bette are propping the bar up while downing tequila shots and every dark corner is filled with the less confident women who secretly steal shy kisses from their date. I smile to myself as I imagine a time not too long ago when it would have been Dana hiding in the shadows, silently praying that no one recognised her and outed her to the world.

This bar is full of single women who would love nothing more than to watch their soulmate walk in here tonight. They’re here every night just silently waiting…hoping, that today will be the last day they spend alone. I look at thier lonely searching faces and actually feel fucking sorry for them. Right now they all believe that if they could just find that one special person, if they could just fall in love then their lives would be complete. How fucking misguided is that?

The truth is that you’re happy for a while. For a few short months…sometimes years you love everyday that you live because you have someone to share it with. You become so wrapped up in that person that you actually start to question how you ever managed to survive before they were in your life. Of course by this point you’re so far gone that you become blind to the fact that you managed to survive just fine before they ever made an appearance! Love will make you the happiest you’ve ever been…for a while.

Then one day you’ll wake up and everythings changed. You’ll never know how or why but suddenly that special person will be gone. Sometimes it’s because they’ve fallen for someone else, sometimes it’s because their scared to commit…or in the worst case scenario, sometimes they die! You discover that you’ve given everything you have to someone and yet you’re still completely alone. It’s only at that point that you realise that love may have made you happier then you’ve ever been, but it’s left you hurting more then you ever thought possible. Nothing on this Earth hurts as much as love does. Nothing causes a pain so deep that you can’t eat, can’t sleep…can’t breathe. Nothing, except love, will give you everything you ever wanted and then rip it away as soon as you discover that you can no longer function without it. It leaves you hollow. It leaves you empty. It leaves you broken. Love will take far more victims then it will ever build dreams.

    1. okay….where to start? That was….wellFANTASTIC!You do capture Alice’s voice so well, that it almost sounds like the monologues from the radio show….very well written and phrased provocatively. Truly, you get across the jaded, weary, cynic very well. And Shane…perfect. I could so see that conversation happening! And finally….gawd, the bathroom scene left me a little flushed! More please….and job well done!

    2. i have finally caught up with both chapters and it is really great. Alice is awfully pessimistic but she has alot of insight and makes some really good points. you have really captured how alice could have felt about dana. interestingly enough – i am on alice’s team. i can’t picture her loving or being with anyone else again. at the end of this cruel joke they call the l word (that i am obsessed with) whoever alice ends up with better be flippin fantastic.

    3. wow! i think you’ve really nailed the turmoil alice is in regarding dana’s death and her ‘relationship’ with lara.. it’s heartwrenching to see alice as such a low point. i can’t imagine what it really feels like to lose the love of your life but you’re definitely giving me a glimpse of it. hope you have a happier future in store for alice! can’t wait for your next chapter. i’m hoping shane storms in and kicks Gabby’s ass. haha
