What is love? – Chapter 37

    Aloha

Their flight to Honolulu was in first class comfort even though they slept most of the way. After a few glasses of wine and the meal, Bette fell asleep.

The stewardess brought them a light blanket and Tina carefully covered Bette and then herself. Tina was able to snuggle close to Bette and sleep against her with her hand on her leg. The flight attendant woke them to put on their seat belts for the landing.

The King Kamehameha Hotel in Honolulu

They were staying the first two nights at the King Kamehameha. As Bette checked in, Tina drifted off to the different counters in the very large lobby and came back to Bette with her hand filled with tourist brochures.

“Bette, look at this!” Bette finished tipping the bell hop and walked out to their 10th floor balcony and looked down on Waikiki Beach and off to the left to Diamond Head. Bette slid her arm around Tina’s waist, looked out at the water, but mostly looked at her delighted wife.

    “This is beautiful,” Tina enthused.

“Yes, it is. Gorgeous.” agreed Bette, looking at Tina.

Tina realized that Bette was talking about her and not the ocean and rewarded her with a serious kiss.

“Bette, is everything OK?” asked Tina as they were having dinner.

They had spent the afternoon walking on Waikiki beach, shopping in Honolulu, looking at the fascinating old buildings. And now they were eating in a very good, but casual restaurant outside of the city. They had had dessert and were finishing their after-dinner coffee.

“Everything’s fine,” answered Bette. “Why do you ask?”

“I seemed to be talking all the time and you’re so quiet,” observed Tina.

“I’m just watching you. Watching you enjoy this.”

    “Am I being nutty?”

    “No, you’re being perfect.”

Tina frowned slightly and looked at Bette curiously for more explanation.

“I planned this honeymoon so that you could see and do things that I thought you would love. And seeing you enjoy it iswell, you know.”

“The thing I see that I love the most is you.” Tina’s compliment made Bette blush slightly. .

Tina put her napkin on the table to signal she was ready to leave and Bette did the same.
