What The Future Holds – Chap 13

When Bette came home from work.  She immediately burst into tears and ran into Tina’s arms.  Tina held her and told her how much she was loved.  Tina fixed her some tea with honey and.  drew her a warm bath.  She knew Bette got terrible cramps so she set out her prescription and some water on the table on Bette’s side of the bed.  Tina helped Bette out of the bath and walked her to the bedroom and tucked her in.  Tina and went around the bed and got in and cuddled up as close as she could get to Bette holding her and telling her it was going to be okay.
The next morning.  Bette was sitting outside by the pool reading the newspaper.  Bette yelled ."  Tina, come here."  Tina came out and brought Bette some orange juice and coffee. "  What do you need  sweetheart?"
Bette said " read the story baby and you will know why I called you."  Tina looked at the paper and read that NASA and the European space agency, Russia and Japan have all detected a swarm of asteroids headed for Earth.  The article went on to say that the countries were working together to try to come up with a solution.  The United States was bringing one of the shuttles out of retirement, the Russians were readying a rocket and the Japanese were exploring ways to destroy or divert the path of the asteroids.  The article said that the asteroids were still several months away from Earth and the decision had been made not to try to blow them up because that might just cause a bigger problem with all the pieces hurtling towards Earth, if they wait until they are closer to Earth.  The could cause fire rain that will as much damage as the asteroid.
Tina said " I’m sure we will be hearing much more about this soon.  When they go on the television and radio and declare it worldwide alert .  We will know better when to leave.
It was family night.  They were watching television when all of a sudden they heard ."  We interrupt this program with breaking news, the United Nations has announced that an attempt to divert the asteroids will be made next week."  We will televise the the attempt and we will keep you apprised as to the situation should it become more serious.  We will advise you what to do and where to tune for more information."
" We had better make sure we have everything we need together as it looks like things are beginning to happen."  Said Bette.

    1. I guess I was thinking less impact winter and more like, new succession because the soil would be a lot more fertile after everything had been burned, like after lava flow. Of course, with no sunlight, nothing is going to grow well. It’s for the best, perhaps, that Bette isn’t pregnant. The stress of trying to survive and keeping themselves and their family and friends safe is going to be hard enough, I think. They’d better head off soon, then, if things are about to happen. There’s still time to get more supplies together and start transporting them to their eventual settlement. Thanks for the post! :)
