What Time Can Do Part 2

    Bette: This is Bette Porter.

Tina: Hi Bette, are you busy?

Bette: (Somewhat caught off guard)Tina, is that you?

    Tina: (Quietly)Yeah Bette, its me.

[Bette lets go of the now death grip on her necklace and it becomes clear what she was holding on to. A set of rings, her and Tinas wedding rings. The night Tina left, Bette put the rings on her necklace and said, Well always be close to my heart. She hasnt taken it off since.]

Bette: Its good to hear from you, how are you doing?

Tina: Im doing ok, how are you?

Bette: Im doing ok. Is everything all right? Its been so long since Ive heard from you. (With a hint of desperation in her voice)Im trying to give you all the time and space you need, but each day that passes breaks my heart more.

    Tina: Im sorry Bette

Bette: (Cutting Tina off before she had a chance to finish her sentence) NO Tina, Im sorry for destroying our relationship, but more important than that, Im sorry I destroyed your trust and lost my best friend.

Tina: (Softly) Bette please let me finish.

Bette: Go ahead T, I wont interrupt you again.

Tina: (Almost whispering)I didnt realize how much I missed that until now.

    Bette: What, me interrupting you?

Tina: (Slightly laughing)No, hearing you call me T.

Bette: (Light heartedly)Its good to hear you laugh, Ive missed that.

    [A short pause]

Tina: Bette, I called because I think it is time we dealt with our situation.

Bette’s mind goes into overdrive. Did she just call us a situation? I guess she has had enough time to decide that she doesnt want or need me anymore. I love her so much and unfortunately I realized it too late. I was SO stupid giving her three months of time and space. What was I thinking?

    [Tina interrupted Bettes thoughts.]

Tina: Bette, are you still there?

Bette: (Softly)Yeah Tina, Im still here.

Tina: When can we meet to talk, I need it to be as soon as possible, the sooner the better.

The sooner the better, I havent seen or heard from you in three months and now all of a sudden you need to see me immediately. Maybe its for the best, Tina deserves to be happy.

Bette: (Softly, almost mumbling)Im available whenever you want to meet.

Tina: Are you available tonight, we could meet at 7pm?

Bette: I’ll be there, where do you want to meet at?

Tina: (A long pause then Tina says)Pier 13, third bench from the end.

She wants to meet at OUR spot, I proposed to her there. Does she not remember the importance of that location? Bette is struggling with herself as Tina interrupts.

Tina: Bette, is that ok? Do you remember where it is?

Bette: (In her head) How could I ever forget? There are so many wonderful memories there. (Sounding defeated)Ill be there.

Tina: Ill see you tonight, (a pause)and Bette, dont be late. Bye.

Dont be late; whom did she think she called? I am never late for anything. Maybe I should be late. If Tina is in such a hurry to end our relationship, than maybe I should make her wait it out. Who am I kidding? She knows me too well and she knows Ill be on time, ***** probably early. I need to make this opportunity worth it. This is my last chance for Tina to see my love and devotion to our marriage. Im not letting her go without a fight.

Tina: (Talking to herself while still holding the phone receiver in her hand)She said yes, she said she would meet me tonight at our spot. I will never forget the night she proposed to me on that bench. She didnt seem to notice I mentioned OUR spot, I wonder if she even remembers? God Ive missed her. Just the sound of her voice, how could I walk away? I still love her

    1. “I am never late” LMAO! Bette has to be delusional, she’s constantly late. It’s the one consistent that Tina and her friends could always count on. Bette not just late, but having the impeccible timing of showing up right as their rant about how late Bette always was, was dying down. 5-Stars! :D LMFAO!

    2. Unlke Gemini, I wanted the “in-between” time explored… Oh well. I’m sure you’ll continue to do a fine job with this story wherever you take it. Keep up the good work.
