What Time Can DoPart 6
[Bette had pulled up to the Pier parking lot at 6:45pm. She shut off the engine, closed her eyes and placed her head on the steering wheel. Tina, my life took on a new meaning the day I met you. I will never regret our life together. From this day forward, I will not look back. I owe you the truth, no excuses attached. If I lose you today, at least you will have the truth. Bette sat there a few more minutes trying to compose herself. She pulled her necklace out of her shirt and held their rings tight. Of all the things I learned and came to realize during therapy, none were as powerful and overtaking as my love for you. No matter what happens tonight, I will forever be indebted by your love. Bette kissed the rings and placed them back in her shirt.]
[Bette opens the car door and gets out. She reaches for her jacket and a single rose lying on the passenger seat. She closes the door and leans against the car. Bette quietly whispers to the pedals, This rose represents my life with you. If after tonight we have a future I will give you this rose as a start to our future, no looking back. If tonight is the end of our journey, I will place this rose in the ocean and walk away, no looking back. Bette gently tucks the rose into her jacket. She takes one last deep breath and heads for Pier 13.]
[Tina pulls up to the Pier parking lot at 6:50pm, theres no sign of Bettes car. I figured Bette would be here by now. Maybe she changed her mind, maybe she isnt coming? Pull it together Kennard, shes probably running behind. You know Bette; shes probably got caught up in the middle of something at work. Tina sits in her car for a few minutes, she takes a couple of deep breathes trying to calm down. Her hands are shaking. I havent been this nervous to see Bette since we first started dating. Tina starts to reflect on those days until she is startled by her phone ringing. Please dont tell me its Bette canceling. Seeing that its Alice, Tina lets out the breath she had been holding.]
Tina: Hey Al.
Tina: No, I just got here. (Pause) Al, I dont see her car. Do you think she would stand me up?
(Pause)
Tina: I dont know if I can do this. My hands are shaking and Im scared and nervous
[Tinas sentence is interrupted]
Tina: Thanks Alice, I need her to still want me, to need me. I dont think I can let her go.
Tina: Ok and Alice, dont wait up. Ill fill you in tomorrow. If all goes well, I want to go home tonight. If not, Ill be late getting in and not in the mood to talk.
(Pause)
Tina: I love you too Al, Thanks. Bye.
[Tina slowly gets out of the car. Before walking towards the Pier she pulls two keys out of her pocket. Leaning against her car, Tonight reality strikes. Bette if you still want me you will be truthful with me. I still love you but need to know where you stand. If we can work this out I will give you the key to my heart and this key back to Alice. If our road has come to an end I will return this key to you, our house key, and walk away forever. Tina kisses the keys and puts them in her pocket. One last deep breath and heads for Pier 13.]
[Both women are slowly walking down the pier, almost as though they dont want to reach their destination. There is a slight breeze in the air coming off the water. The sun is setting over the horizon, this catches both their eyes. They are so caught up in their own thoughts and the breathtaking view that neither notices they are walking towards each other.]
[Tina glances forward and at that very second she notices a thinner, less professional, yet stunningly gorgeous Bette walking her way. God shes beautiful. My heart feels like its jumping rope. About then Bette looks forward and stops dead in her tracks. Both women are facing one another and about 100 feet away. My beautiful Tina, you wore my favorite T-shirt. I always thought it looked better on you than on me. As they approached each other Bette clinched the rose in her jacket like it was her life line. Tina squeezed the keys in her pocket as though they were her guide.]
[The two women were now just three feet a part, standing directly in front of the bench, their bench. Bette broke the awkward silence.]
Bette: (As she motions towards the bench)Would you like to sit down?

Oh my God, you are killing me with this story…and I know I will get a lot of crap for saying this, because my chapters are not that long, but PLEASE write longer chapters. Wheww…Ok, I’ve said it, I’m done. Great story, thanks!
please make them longer
My sentiments are with seahurst, great story, but you just can’t let us dangle like you have been with these short chapters. I write poems that are longer than this. Please continue and I will look forward to your next chapter hopefully it will be looonger.
I like where you’re going with this, and the life line/guide parallel. Question: why the brackets though? You have their conversations properly delineated, so there’s no need for the brackets to describe/set up the scene. Just my two cents.
Keep up the good work!
Really good!
love this chapter. One has rose, the other the key. Lets hope the tide doesn’t get the rose great.
