    When Hope Is Lost

“Good, I go now, bye.” He said to her and got down and left the office. She smiled at the preciousness of her son. He was such a peacekeeper. The three women watched him walk out of the space, all smiling, at his ways of being in the world.

“I love that grandson of mine and look forward to getting to know him better.” Maxine commented and Bette and Kit smiled at the comment.

Kit moved towards Bette and they shared a long loving hug and then Kit finally noticed that their long-lost mom was sitting on the sofa right next to them and she squealed with delight. Maxine stood back up and they also hugged and then the three of them then sat down together to talk.

Thirty minutes later Ozzie knocked on the door once more and asked if he could open the door and once more Bette gave him permission. When he opened it, there stood Andrew and Lynn. Lynn could have been Bette’s twin, and Andrew looked so much like Kit whom both looked more like their father. It was an emotional meeting between all of them as Maxine introduced Bette and Kit’s siblings. Ozzie once again slipped out to go get something to eat, as he was hungry. He knew that this was adult time and he’d leave them to do that for them selves.

He ran into James who offered to help him get a plate and then sit down at a table to eat. So as Bette, Kit, Maxine, Lynn and Andrew were getting to know one another, Allyn and James were entertaining the patrons and selling art. Ozzie just wanted to watch it all, taking in what he could.

Within twenty minutes, his mom sat down next to him at the table and smiled. She reached over and kissed his head and left her lips there for a moment. Kit followed her over to the table and sat down as well, as did Maxine. Lynn and Andrew went off to investigate the art.

“Hi, Mom… You do okay?” He asked her as he munched on his veggies.

“Yes, I think I am… It’s been quite the emotional rollercoaster. Good thing I did the work with Sonia for this moment… Thank you for being such an amazing little man for me. I love you! How did you know that Kit, Lynn and Andrew were all related to me?”

“Mom?! I just look at them and see they look like you! They have you smile an they very nice.”

“Come here, please, as I need one of your hugs.” Bette said to her son as he beamed one of his amazing smiles and climbed over onto her lap and they hugged for a long moment. When they finished, Bette introduced her sister and mom. “Honey, you now know Kit, my older sister from LA and this is my mom, Maxine who I haven’t seen in a very long time.”

“Hi, my name, Ozzie Porter… nice meet you both.”

“It’s nice to meet you, too, Ozzie. You sure look like your mom.” Kit shared with him.

“I think God did that so we know we belong together.” He answered quite directly and Maxine and Kit just smiled at him.

“You know, I think that you’re right. You do belong together.” Kit said to him as she shook his hand. “Hi, I’m Kit Porter.”

“Wow! You, me have same last name!”

“Yes, we do don’t we? I kind of like that.” Kit replied and he smiled and nodded.

    “Mom, I finish veggies now?”

“Yes, honey, you can. Well, I need to go to work as Allyn has been covering for me. Excuse me. We’ll talk later, okay?”

“Yes, honey, we will do that. This will give me a chance to get to know my grandson. Hi, Ozzie, my name’s Maxine, and I’m your grandmother, as is Allyn.” Maxine said to him and they shook hands. He sat there with the biggest smile on his face. So, as it was, the three of them sat and talked giving Kit and Maxine time to catch up with each other’s lives and Ozzie sat and ate his veggies and felt quite content.

    1. This is such a wonderfully written story. It is unfolding at a great pace, giving me time to adjust to some unanticipated revelations. I love Ozzie, so sweet, so loving, so balanced..such a contrast to Bette and her sometimes knee jerk reactions. Bette’s broken life in Weho has been replaced with a family full of possibilities: a new son, Kit returning to her life, finding her mother, as well as another sister and brother! In addition to that her other mother is her boss!! Talk about changes! PPS!!

    2. Great update again.Love your story.Glad that Bettes meeting with her Mother went smoothly. Thanks to her Mothers patience in delaying the meeting Bette after such a long time apart and to find out she had 2 siblings to boot.Very pleased that Bette has Kit back in her life. Will Kit now test the waters re Tina or decide to wait until her own relationship with Bette is back on track.Loving Ozzie a great little man with so much love to give Bette who needed it at a difficult time in her life.

    3. Great updates, they were wonderful. I half expected Tina to show up in one of these chapters. At least Bette thought of and wished that Tina was there with her to share her seeing her mother again. Hopefully she says that out loud to Kit, especially since Kit is living with her and helping her with the baby is she has now had Angelica and I think she must have by now or is very close to her due date. Hopefully she will see Tina next. Updates were wonderful. Thanks for posting.
