    Shane has some explaining to do, but can she?

    Bette read the piece of paper over and over again and didn’t notice Tina, now standing at the top of the stairs. She was looking down at Shane, who was still pacing with her head in her hands. “What is going on out here, what just happened,” she cautiously asked, causing Shane to look up. “Nothing, it’s nothing.”

    Bette folded the paper slowly and handed it back to Shane. “I think we should all go inside,” she muttered, walking sullenly up the stairs passed Tina before taking a seat at the table. “What did you say to her?”

    Shane just shrugged as she entered the kitchen. When Tina followed, she didn’t say a word. She leaned awkwardly against the door and waited until Bette finally said, “I think you should sit down, too.”

    Bette sat in her window seat and stared down at Thomas, who was putting the luggage in the trunk of the car. She watched as her mother approached the open door, only turning and looking up to send a wave in her direction. She waved back and when the car was far enough away, she ran out and into her mother’s bedroom. Throwing herself into the covers, she began to cry. Melvin, noticing the open door, peeked his head in. “What are you doing in here?”

    Feeling embarrassed, she covered her face and silenced her cries as he took a seat at the foot of the bed. “She’ll be back, and we’ll both be there to pick you up when your classes let out in spring.”

    “I heard you fighting last night, Daddy. Where is she going?”

    Melvin nonchalantly answered, “Your mother has something to take care of and it doesn’t involve you or I, that much I can tell you—and when she’s finished, she’ll be back, like I said. In the meantime, don’t worry yourself over grownup things. I want you to concentrate on your studies.”

    “But, I don’t think I should leave right now…”

    Melvin stood, straighting his jacket and without looking back, he continued, “Oh, I think that’s exactly what you should do. Now, leave your mother’s things alone and join me downstairs for dinner. You don’t want me eating alone on your last night home, do you?”

    3. What a twist and turn of events! My head is still trying to grapple with it all and I have been a devoted fan from the first chapter of the first story. Simply Wow! I wish it wasn’t ending. Will there be a follow-up story on the outcome of the match? I hope so!

    5. Girl, I can’t remember a story that held such an unexpected twist as this one. The perfect intrigue…jumped out and bit you when you least expected it! Great update, but with only one chapter to go you definitely need to write a sequel…there’s no way to address everything in one more chapter. Please consider it?

    9. Well, it looks like both Bette and Tina gained a sister in Shane. Shane has always considered Bette and Tina as her family. Now they are in your story.

    10. Twisting and turning! So Shane is the love child of Philip and Lillian. I wonder if Bette ever thought it was a pregnancy that caused her Mother to leave??? I hope Tina will be open to trying with Shane as a match.

    13. OMG! I got it as soon as I started reading. ” How am I related to Tina when I’m supposed to be related to you” classic. Tina’s dad and Bette’s mom, wow, I hope they both can get thier heads around this and move on. PPS
