    Chapter 3

     

    Tina had manipulated events in her schedule around the time and date of Angelica’s show.  She wasn’t going to take any chances of getting caught out of town.  So to that end she planned on working late both Monday and Tuesday in order to free up the entire afternoon of Thursday, the evening of the show.  She was hoping to get to the school early to finally see Angelica’s creation finished and then after the show take her out to dinner.  Just the two of them together spending some quality time where maybe they could talk. 

     

    Her plan began to run a rye right out of the gate on Monday.  The largest budgeted film in their spring offering was running into production problems in Toronto.  The special effects that were due to be completed two weeks ago had yet to arrive.  Something to do with the personnel having differences in creative energy.  If they didn’t get this in before the end of the week it would mean the film couldn’t get it final edit together in time for the Caine film festival.  Advertising for the film’s release has already been launched in anticipation of the release date.  This could potentially mean millions of dollars of purchased advertising would go up in smoke if something wasn’t done right now to resolve this impasse.

     

    Frustrated but still calm about the crisis, Tina was packing her overnight bag optimistically believing she would resolve this dilemma quickly.  Depositing her bag at the front door she had already called for a cab to take her to the airport.  She just wanted to check on Angelica before she left.

     

    “Well I guess this is goodbye.  Give me a kiss before my ride gets here.”

     

    “Mom you remember my show is Thursday.  You are going to be back right?” Angelica implores worried that her Mom is leaving town.

     

    “Of course I remember.  I’m so proud of how hard you’ve worked to be in that show.  I’ll be back.  Don’t worry.” Tina says while giving Angelica a reassuring hug.

     

    Angelica has heard this before but still wants to believe her Mom.  “Oh well it starts at 6:30 just to remind you.”

     

    “I’ll be there.  Now do you know what you’re wearing?  Do we need to pick anything up for you?” Tina asks suddenly thinking she hasn’t thought of this before.

     

    “Well it would be nice to have something new to wear.  Paige’s parents took her shopping over the weekend for her dress.”

     

    Feeling guilty for not thinking of it sooner, Tina opens her purse and pulls out her wallet.  Handing Angelica one of her credit cards, “Here Honey, go get yourself a new dress tomorrow.  You’ve earned it so get something nice.”

     

    Just as Tina handed the credit card to Angelica a horn blasts letting Tina know her cab has arrived.

     

    “That’s my ride.  I’ll see you.  Be good for Mrs. Murphy OK?” Tina says bending down to give Angelica a quick peck on the forehead.  “Bye now Honey.”

     

    With that Tina turns and was gone.

     

    Angelica watched her Mother get into the cab before looking down at the credit card in her hand.  Smiling, she already knew exactly what she was going to buy with it.

    3. Let’s hope Tina makes it back in time for Angie’s show. Maybe Bette can be a visiting judge so at least one of her parents will be there. Even if they don’t know about one another. I don’t know if I would be so carefree to hand my child my charge card and tell him to go shopping without supervsion(lol). Thanks for the update.

    5. I am so liking this!!! I am sure one of Shane’s kids will be in the show and Bette will be there. I just hope Tina shows up late and run’s into Bette. Thanks PPVS

    6. Here’s hoping Angie is as sensible with the credit card as she was in turning down Paige. I guess she’s really earned some credit with her mother. So is this interest in art going to bring the child and her estranged mother together at last?

    7. Great writing. I am wondering how you’re going to get them together. Will Bette be a judge or will she see a notice about the Art Fair and the entrants? OR do you have something up your sleeve? PPS.

    8. I hope that Angelica will be wise with her mother’s credit card. Can Tina really trust her daughter with her card?? lol Anyways, Bette and Shane have gotten closer since she’s been diagnose with leukemia. I really hope that Tina and Bette will see each other again…PPS
