     Previously:

    Bette shoots Alice a look.

“Ok, ok, ok, ok, no overalls, maybe a nice Daisy Dukes ensemble for you Bette.” Shane is grabbing Alice trying valiantly to shut her up before she finds herself walking the rest of the way to Agnes’s house.

    Chapter 8

They pull up in front of a small market on the main drag.

As they enter they are now very aware that they have indeed left LA. If there was any question before, there certainly is not now. The old woman behind the cash register smiles shyly as the strangers come in to shop.

“Bette, no Pellegrino here, I’m sure of it.” Alice continues to rib Bette. “I told you we should have brought our Birkenstocks and flannels.” Shane’s elbow is going to get very sore at this rate. It has found it ways to Alice’s rib cage again.

They find a few things to buy, crackers, cheese, soft drinks, beer, no name bottled water fresh fruit and lunch meat.” “OH God, I detest lunch meat.” Bette rolls her eyes.

Tina wants to sooth Bette nerves a bit, she places her hand on Bette’s forearm and gives it a light squeeze. “We just need a few things for right now. We can do some more shopping tomorrow. What about coffee?”

“Do they have instant  … fuck, instant coffee. I don’t know if there is a coffee pot there or not.” Bette is starting to have a sense of dread. Maybe this wasn’t such a good idea after all.

Alice yells from another aisle. “I found instant coffee.”

“Just a little louder and don’t think the people driving by heard you.” Bette was just about to come undone with this ridiculous trip. “How could I have been so stupid?” Bette thought to herself.

The ladies made their purchase and as they made their way back to the van, it started to rain. As they all climb into the van Bette looks at Tina, almost it tears. “Could anything else possibly go wrong?”

Tina just smiled the, I am so sorry you are having a bad day smile. She didn’t have any idea what to say to Bette.

    1. Bette appears to have my kind of luck, when it’s good it’s so good and when it’s going badly, oh nothing goes right. I think Bette’s luck might be making a turn for the better though. Love how she tells Tina she loves her and is going to keep telling her that! PPS

    2. I think Bette and Tina need to share a room. This was too funny. I was cracking up picturing them stuck in the rain, Alice behind the van and Bette letting go.

    3. Will someone please glue Alice’s mouth shut. As Amanda said, hope it is Tina and Bette that have to share a bedroom. I think after Alice’s comment and Bette Tina’s reaction to it, I think Tina will want to curl up in Bette’s arms all night. Don’t think she will admit it but will surrender to Bette. Can hardly wait for the next chapter. PPS
