    “Uh, Carmen…?”

“Hmm?” Carmen wasn’t looking at Papi. Her eyes were concentrated on her plate that contained a half-eaten salad. She wasn’t hungry at all but she let herself be convinced by Papi that they should at least have lunch half an hour ago. Carmen’s head thumped in rhythm with her heart – a headache, although a minor one, had carted her appetite off into an endless vortex.

Papi voiced out her concern. “Are you feeling all right? You haven’t spoken more than five words since I got here two hours ago. And I came as fast as I could… What’s up?”

“Is it so wrong to think that maybe Shane and I have even just a slim probability of ending up together?” Carmen asked Papi.

A whistle came out of Papi’s mouth. She took her glass of water and gulped down half of it. “Whew. I needed that. Well… The answer is rather obvious, Carmen. We both saw her across the street meeting up with Cherie. Maybe Shane thought we wouldn’t be here. Whoa, wait. Are you spying on her now?”

“I’m not that desperate, Papi. It’s a coincidence.”

“You look like you are… Don’t you think, maybe you’re smothering her? I mean, you’re not even officially together. People like Shane… They don’t like to be crowded. Suffocate them and they’ll just have more reasons to run away from you. You know that, right? It’s not like I’m spreading anything bad about her. That’s just the way it goes. Maybe ‘cause we’re somehow alike.” Papi finished her glass. “Are you in love with Shane…?”

“I don’t wanna talk about this anymore, Papi. Maybe I should stop caring too much about this.” Carmen dodged the question. She was confused. She was frustrated. She was blue. She was everything but jovial.

    “Are you…?” Papi pressed.

“No, I’m not in love.” A rather short and insufficient answer, but Carmen didn’t feel the need to expound. “You wanna get out of here?”

Papi narrowed her eyes at Carmen. She was trying to detect if she could squeeze anything more from her but said, “I thought you’d never ask.”

    1. Thanks for the update. I have to admit that I only read the Sharmen parts but I like them a lot. Not the one where Carmen cheats on Shane, but I’m looking forward to see what happens next.

    2. i love the sharmen part, and actually surprised that carmen cheated on shane, since she’s obvious not into papi and papi should knew that. PPS!!**I love the song “in the sun”, and yeah, everytime i hear this i feel sad :(

    3. read this all tonight, I gotta say you got me hooked. I planned on turning in early tonight, might a couple of hours has passed and it’s almost two am in here. I’m disappointed that Dana’s gone too. I’m loving the Lara-Dana-Alice-Tasha stuff. The Tina and Bette part is a bit sad, over all, I like it. I’m gonna have to check in more in here to see your next post. Thumbs up to you! thanks for posting these.:)
