Lara chokes up.

Lara ”…Dana didn’t.”

Carmen ”Shit.”

Lara ”…We never got to talk about it. I never got to ask what Dana’s true feelings were. Alice and I were both there when she died. She loved both of us. And it’s been really hard to deal with.”

Carmen ”Shit…Lara I’m…sorry.”

Lara ”We’re both still hurt. We’ve been trying to get through this, but…it’s too hard sometimes. She’ll stay over at my place or I’ll be over at hers. And lately, I’ve been holding vigil over Alice, because…she has her vices.”

Carmen ”Lara… Lara, you’re doing what you need to do, because you love your friends. It’s one of the thing I love about you. You have a heart…and no matter how many times it gets broken, you’re right back. And you’re still caring. There are people who would kill…to have your resolve.”

Lara ”…Alice and I had sex.”

Carmen is silent, unsure how to react.

Lara ”Our last night in Dana’s apartment. We were hurting. All we had…was each other. And all we did was cry.”
Carmen takes Lara back in with her arms around her shoulders.

Carmen ”…It never makes sense sometimes.”

Lara ”Nothing makes sense right now. Everything that’s happened…I just wanna be there for her…still. We made a promise to take care of each other. …Alice is sleeping now. I had to get some air. I just…had to come by and say hi. I know we haven’t talked much lately.”

Carmen ”I understand, Lara. You’re keeping your promise. That’s another thing I love about you.”

Lara ”I just don’t wanna fuck up.”

Lara’s cellphone vibrates. She picks up the phone and looks at it, reading a text message.

Lara ”It’s Alice. I’ve gotta go.”

Lara hurries off without so much as a farewell message. She speeds off out of the parking lot in her car. Carmen places her head against the Jeep and sighs.

Alice’s apartment.

She sits on the floor, her arms crossed and rocking back and forth, tears flowing from her eyes. The pills are still there, taunting her. The door to her apartment opens with Lara rushing in. She finds Alice on the living room floor.
