    Work to Do Chapter 11

Things deteriorated from there. Dana continued to pursue a relationship with Lara as Alice pursued them both. At the same time her radio show was evolving into a ‘love stinks’ monologue that was both hilarious and becoming more and more popular.

Alice managed to convey their break up and her accompanying heartbreak in a manner that was entertaining and didn’t make people uncomfortable. (Except for, of course, Dana.)

Off the air, she was evasive and more sarcastic than usual with her friends. She was taking Ambien to sleep at night and Ritalin to wake up. This was just temporary, she told herself, to get thru the split-up.

Just because Alice felt like wearing her pajamas all day and watching Oprah didn’t mean her weekly column wasn’t still due each Monday. ‘The Chart’ was a live show! She had to function whether she liked it or not.

The reporter increasingly found that when she wasn’t working, she was following Dana. Slowly, Dana was starting to realize that too. This was confirmed to Alice when they ran into each other at the Planet one morning.

Dana was leaving the caf as Alice was opening the door.

“You’re slipping Alice.” Dana scowled. “You’re not usually so easy to spot.”

Alice opened her mouth to speak but Dana gave her a withering look and told her to “Save it” as she pushed by her. Alice looked after her for a moment and then shrugged in response to Shane’s questioning look.

    “Grumpy much?” she smiled.

Shane’s look held the same concern Alice had grown used to seeing in her friend’s eyes. It was why she’d been avoiding the Planet and the gang lately. She opted to ignore Shane’s troubled expression and get her cup to go.

“Sorry sweetie. I’m running late. Let’s catch up soon!” Alice suggested. She offered what she hoped was a normal smile and was out the door before Shane could respond.

One evening around dusk- Dana’s kitchen

Dana was at her kitchen sink using the spray nozzle to water her plants. She’d gathered all the plants from around her condo onto the counter to fertilize them and give them a drink.

    1. DO you just like teasing people and toying with our emotions? j/k Like I always say, I would gladly take your season 3 over the current crop of terriying evil spoilers/rumors. Actually you make so much more sense than the show itself. Can I just say how much I Love the final scene? Just prefect *sigh*

    2. I just can’t tell you enough how much I love this story. Great writing and great job conveying the Danish angst/romance. I too wish this is what we’d be treated to in season 3. Thanks for writing.

    3. You know what else would have been perfect? Nookie. Lol, just teasing. Since you’ve been kind enough to do it to us. Your idea of Alice stalking makes more sense than EZ writing for the show. Maybe it was her idea in the first place!? Anyway, I talk too much. I’m just going to say thank you for cancelling out the couch and moving them over to the bed. So please post soon!

    4. Cape, I think you raised the bars for all the Danish fic writers because I’ve read a lot of Season 3 spoilers’ motivated fanfics but none of them was this brave and real. Most of them never dealt with the stalking plot. It seems it’s gonna be a hard and long ride with this story but I’m so loving it

    5. Great take on the nasty S3 spoilers Capesquad (or should I say Ms Capesquad!) Loving that their time with each other is almost awkward and the way you illustrate that but clearly there is a depth of feeling which allows them get beyond that. Looking forward to next week!

    6. I really enjoyed reading your spin on the spoilers and how you made Alice reflect on her actions. Loved this line, “Because she didn’t feel like home and she wasn’t going to…” I thought it was sweet. Great chapter…anxiously looking forward to the next one

    7. hey great update, a hell of a lot better than those spoilers.::shivers:: Things seem to be looking up for alice and dana, yay, can’t wait for your next post!

    8. Now, what didn’t I love about this chapter? Oh that’s right. Nothing. It was all great: Dana and Alice wondering what is and isn’t ‘allowed’; Dana wondering if it was a date; poor Alice anticipating the stalking dscussion with a ward of shrinks; and Dana’s reason, so simple, for breaking up with Lara. It always amazes me that you manage to convey so much in so few words. The pace was perfect; as was the ending. Do we really have to wait a week for the next one?

    9. fantastic! you have such great lines in your stories. you did a great job portraying the scenario and feelings of two people who aren’t broken up but not together and how it feels. excellent!

    10. Still waiting for your other story. Lady Gray. Seriously though I’m loving this story. You really are making the spoiler a little easier to take, if only you wrote for the show, because I just have a feeling they won’t do as good of a job as you have. Great chapter, looking forward to next week, Deb

    11. The background you gave really helped to show why Alice and Dana interacted the way they did at the beginning of your story. I was so happy to see that this chapter extended into the present time. I’ve been sitting here trying to understand the soothing sense of quiet I felt reading this part. All I’ve been able to come up with so far is that as much as Lara was not home for Dana, we all know that Alice is her home. I was surprised by the extent you were able to make me feel that in this chapter. I can’t wait to see what happens next. Check out the lyrics to the song I sent you.
