“I want to be able to let her go.”
“Why?” Alice implored
“Because Paris is an opportunity of a lifetime for Bette and she loves it there so much”
“But I’m pretty sure that she wants to be here with you more”
“That’s what she says but I don’t think it’s for the right reasons”
“She loves you and wants to be here with you, what’s not right about that?”
“I think it’s because she feels guilty and she feels like she has to stay with me because it’s the right thing to do” Tina tried to keep her voice even as the emotions began to rise again “She’s not in love with me anymore and she should go. I won’t hold her back from this”
“So you’re going to let her go to Paris alone” Alice couldn’t believe her ears “This is a dangerous game you’re playing Tina. What if you’re wrong? What if Bette really is in love with you and you’re pushing her away? That just makes no sense”
“Alice, have you forgotten what she did? I can assure you that I haven’t. I just don’t believe that you cheat on your partner if you’re in love with them. Things haven’t been great between us for a while; we always seem to be fighting. Looking back now I can see the signs that I chose to ignore along the way. That letter just makes me feel like I’ve been a burden to her and this is an opportunity for me to give Bette her freedom. I’m choosing to let her go”
“So that’s it?” Alice questioned “Your decision is made. Tell me Tina, who wins out of this?”
“Bette”
“I think that she would disagree with you on that. She made a mistake and she’s been fighting ever since to put things right. You know as well as I do that Bette wouldn’t bother fighting if it wasn’t what she wanted. I’m just sorry that you don’t see it like that”
“Please don’t make this any harder than it is Alice. I need you to accept my choice” Tina’s voice began to waiver as tears gathered in her eyes
“Hey, I’ll support your decision, I just want to be sure that you’re making the right one” Alice could see that Tina had been stretched too far this time and now wasn’t the time to push this any further “It’s only a four day trip anyway. If you change your mind Bette will be back next week anyway”

that’s what i’m talking about! making the wrong decision just because she isn’t ready to make any other decision and won’t submit to the emotional blackmail. not looking good for them. good chapter! i’m trusting you!

Totally trust you! Liz and I are basically saying the same thing, but I don’t think the blackmail is intentional. Tina is making the right initial decision, yet I hope love changes her mind.
