    Young Folks – Chapter 7

Bette watched in jealousy as Helena’s “friend” hugged her so tightly, lifting her off her feet. Bette repeated to herself quietly in her head, “No need to get jealous, no need to get jealous, no need to get jealous.”

How cheesy can this guy get? Bette rolled her eyes, seeing that Helena’s “friend” had lifted and spin her in mid air.

Finally, for what seemed like a million years, he released Helena from the hug. “How did you even find out that I was living here?” Helena asked excitedly.

Bette, on the other hand, cringed at the sight of how excited Helena was. She buries her face in her hands, muttering, “I am not jealous. Not jealous, not jealous. It’s like I barely even know her.”

Just as Bette looked up, she was startled to see both Helena and her “friend” were standing right in front of her. Oh my god, I would literally die on the spot if they had heard me.

“Bette… Are you alright?” Helena looked at Bette quizzically.

Bette fidgeted, “Uhh… Yeah. I’m not jea… I mean I’m good, great.”She laughed nervously, trying to cover up that slip of word. Oh god, that was a close one.

“Alright.” Helena gave an unconvinced shrug, but then continued, “Bette, I would like you to meet Ted. Ted, meet Bette.”

Ted smiled warmly, offering a handshake. Bette got up from the couch to shake his hand but then came to realize how tall Ted was. With a polite smile, she said, “Nice to meet you.”

Ted had semi-long dark brown hair, his bangs side wept, framing his handsome eurasian face.

“I’m sure that by now, you must have noticed what a neat freak Helena is.” Ted said teasingly.

Helena nudged him, “Hey, you do realize that I am standing right next to you right.”

Both Bette and Ted chuckled. Bette laughs, “Well, she is very neat and tidy but I wouldn’t say that she’s some kind of a neat freak or something.”

“Thank you, Bette.” Helena grinned at Bette then back at Ted who in turn just shrugged at her.

“Right…” Ted said sarcastically, before politely offering, “Anyway, I was planning to take Helena out for dinner, you are more than welcomed to join us.”
