    Young Folks – Chapter 7

“What are you talking about?” Helena raised her eyebrows as she looked up from her plate.

“I’m talking about how you both have something going on.”

“What? No seriously Ted, what are you trying to say?” She questioned, sounding confounded as she put down her fork.

“I am trying to say that I have a hunch that she likes you and you like her back but none of you are admitting to it.” Ted shrugged as if what he had said was not much of a big deal.

“No! That is so untrue.” Helena shot back, stupefied by the statement that Ted had just made.

“Is that so?” Ted rubbed his chin, “Then how would you explain your over-exaggerated reaction?”

Helena took a deep breath and quickly regained her composure and went back to cutting her apply crumble into bite size piece. She feigned and asked, “What over-exaggerated reaction?”

He laughed at Helena’s failed attempt to feign innocent. He shook his head, “Trust me, I’m quite positive that she likes you. Her body language and that brief conversation we had, tells me so.”

“Right… What makes you think I should believe you?”

“Well, first of all, I am your best friend. And secondly, you’re talking to someone who had studied psychological behavioral science.”

Helena rolled her eyes upon listening to Ted’s response, still very much unconvinced and unwillingly to admit that she may have a thing for Bette.

He then continued, “She seemed fidgety when you greeted me at the door. She even asked me how long you and I have been together.”

Helena’s eyes widen. So maybe Bette might have a tiny crush on her but then again, Ted might be reading into it a little bit too much.

“That could mean anything. It may be because she was curious to find out.” She shrugged, acting like she doesn’t care. Well, technically, she does care but only to a tiny tiny tiny extent.

“And you missy, don’t act like you don’t care. I know you like her too.”

    “No, I don’t.”

“Yes, you do. I saw that look on your face when she said she wasn’t going to join us for dinner.”

Helena glared at Ted. This was one of those moments that she hated how Ted could read her so easily.

“Fine… Maybe I do like her. But it’s just a little tiny bit more than a friend.” She emphasized on the word tiny.

Ted grinned, “I knew it, I knew it!”
