Chapter 30

Bette looked in on Angie on her way from the master bedroom – she smiled and went to find Tina who was scooping some chocolate ice cream into two bowls

“Come and see this “ Bette said

Tina raised an eyebrow but followed Bette. Reaching Angie’s room Bette indicated that Tina should look inside. Tina looked in slightly anxious but smiled the way Bette had. Angie normally slept hugging her teddy bear – one that Bette had first placed in her cot when she was only a few days old. Tonight she was holding her little trophy. At most it must have cost the school a few dollars but it was priceless and irreplaceable to Angie and to her mothers. Tina withdrew her head and looked at Bette

“You might want to ring around tomorrow and either get a lockable trophy cabinet for our daughter’s number one possession or add it to our contents insurance “

Bette laughed “I think the lockable trophy cabinet is the best way forward. Her wrath would be bad if it went missing “

Tina took Bette’s hand and they returned to the living room

“You want wafers or something with your ice cream ?” Tina asked returning to the kitchen

“Just another scoop “ Bette replied

“Glutton “ Tina joked but added an extra big scoop into Bette’s bowl before putting the ice cream away and joining her lover on the sofa.

“Its all that exercise “ Bette joked as Tina handed her a bowl as well as a kiss on the lips

“Yeah -picking yourself off your ass is very calorie demanding “

Bette laughed

“Is that joke ever going to wear thin ?”

“Its not me you need to worry about – Alice will turn it into a saga “

“And she will make sure Angie doesn’t let up about it “

“Angie isn’t going to be a problem – not now she has her trophy – Alice will make it run and run. I doubt that there will be a lesbian on the west coast who won’t have heard about it by the weekend “
