“Alice needs to sort out her love life “
“Yes – what did you make of that ?”
Bette considered the question as she let a mouthful of ice cream melt in her mouth
“If Alice messes up what she has with Tasha she will regret it – have you met this Clea Mason ?”
“No – Alice was talking about her the other day – I didn’t pay much attention but she did chat about her for a while so I should have picked up that she’s got a crush “
“If she’s kissing her its more than a crush “
Tina shrugged “ Hard to judge – as well as we know our friends they can still surprise you “
“Alice never fails to shock me all the time “ Bette replied wryly “ With what a nut ball she is “
“Alice might be a nut ball but she is our nut-ball and we all love her. She deserves all the happiness in
the world after what happened to Dana “
“I wonder if she still thinks about her ?”
“She does – I was riding with her on the race and after we’d been to the chapel she started talking about her. Its strange because I don’t think I have spoken to Alice about Dana since she died. I wasn’t really a part of the gang back then – I had let you all down “
Bette lent over and kissed Tina on the lips
“No you didn’t “
“Well then I let myself down – same difference. I guess I was so wrapped up in my own world that I didn’t consider that Dana was going to die “
Bette sighed “ You and me and probably everyone else. I regret not spending more time with her “
“So do I – I miss Dana. I miss how she was always five seconds behind everyone else”
Bette laughed “ And how funny she was when she’d had a couple of glasses of wine – that used to be
hilarious “
Tina reflected on how someone who had been such a part of their lives had been so cruelly taken so young.
