L-word: So what was the most challenging book for you to write?
TG: The most challenging book to write I would say was something along the lines of “The Mephisto Club” because I was dealing with some sort of religious, spiritual being and I’m not a religious person. I’m very scientific so I had to walk this very fine line to make my readers semi believe that devil could be real and yet somehow wrap it up so I have a logical explanation.
L-word: That was a great book and sort of scary.
TG: I love ancient legends, I love biblical legends maybe because I am so scientific and I’m not religious. It fascinates me just from the point of view how do you explain these things and why do people believe in these things. The supernatural is scary.
L-word: You said that you feel closer to Maura but you also basically fell in love with Jane while you were writing, so are you team Maura or team Jane and why?
TG: (laughing) I’m team Maura just because she’s just like me. I really identify with her and so much of what I write about her is based on myself. I tell you, team Jane I think can sometimes be hard to live with. She’s so pushy, she’s so aggressive and impatient.
L-word: On the show she is so much fun but in the books she’s not much fun to be around but she is kickass, very brave and brilliant.
TG: And absolutely loyal. You know that this woman would stand up and fight any monster for you. I just think she’s hard to live with (laughing).
