This week I’d like to celebrate Lost Girl’s fallen heroes. One of my favorite things about this show is the fact that there is no shortage in brave female warriors of all types from intellectual to street smart to brute strength and skill. Whether they were on the show for only a few episodes or they were a regular, these warriors have a place in our hearts and played a role in helping Bo win out time and again. There is a caveat here, one warrior has returned and one we hope to see again next season. Actually, I’d love to see them all back, but from the looks of it, that just won’t be the case. As with any supernatural/scifi show, anything can happen, but for now, we will stick to what has already occurred and gives these characters their due.
*Spoiler alert- if you haven’t seen all four seasons this may ruin the surprise, that is, if you haven’t already seen the news on social media.
The first to leave us was Ciara the fairy queen. Her appearance created an interesting dynamic with the Bo/Dyson relationship. She was a fierce warrior who trained and fought beside Dyson all the way back in medieval times. Despite the fact that she was a millionaire heiress in modern times, she didn’t flinch in joining the fight against the Garuda and it was her sacrifice that saved Bo at the end of season two. Brave and loyal till the end, she left the show all too soon.
I know this is a lesbian fandom site, but you can’t mention fallen warriors from Lost Girl without the strong and noble siren Hale. He was an integral part of the team from episode one and always there when needed. He was more than just Dyson’s partner, he was a member of Fae royalty who defied the family to become a cop and love a human. He was friend to everyone and died protecting the woman he loved in Kenzi. Things just don’t feel the same without him.
The dark Fae Valkyrie Tamsin has been on our good side and our bad side. No matter how you feel about her, you can’t deny she is among the mightiest of Fae warriors in more ways than just her nature. Before her death she turned her back on her need for revenge and the paid bounty from the Wanderer to join Team Bo. That wasn’t before we had the chance to see her in all her glory as they took down Taft’s facility together and engaged in a mighty clash of the two titans. She perished attempting to run over the wandered, but as a Valkyrie, she is reborn. There are so many possibilities with backstory for this character so I am excited she is back and anxious to see how her last life cycle plays out.
Last, but in no way least, our trusty succubus sidekick and bestie, Kenzi. If you didn’t shed a tear in the season finale then you may not be human. It was without a doubt one of the best scenes the show has done and you could feel her impact on every single character on screen. The tiny human was more than a con. She was street smart and brave. She went back for Dyson after the failed attempt on the Garuda. She always had Bo’s back and helped keep her grounded. She was her heart and her sister and so much more to the show.
No other character has affected every single other one the way she had. From teaching Lauren to pick locks, to turning a wolf into a big softie, Kenzi was truly one of a kind. There is no substitute for heart and this is proof that true heroes come in all shapes, sizes and abilities. We have no idea what Tamsin saw when she delivered the tiny, human warrior to Valhalla, but and we all hope that Bo and the gang can find a way to bring her back. Sooner rather than later.
Here’s a few Benzi highlights. I hope there will be many more to come.
