Lost Girl- Four Little Words Changed Everything

I had planned to do a Dragon Con and Fan Expo recap here, but the news that came out the Monday before the cons rocked the Lost Girl fandom. So now I feel it’s only appropriate to address that here instead. Though I will say that Dragon Con was amazing and meeting Ksenia, Rick and Emmanuel was fantastic. I definitely recommend it if you are considering one. The panels are relaxed and plenty of time with your fav actors in the guest meet and greet areas. I also really enjoyed meeting other fans and folks on Twitter. I will attach youtube links to panels at the end.
Instead, here is my ode to Lost Girl. A show that grabbed me like none other and one that I will continue to enjoy on DVD long after it is gone.
It was just another science fiction show. One hour a week on SyFy to entertain myself. Supernatural beings living and playing amongst the world with humans. A woman on the run, suddenly stumbling upon the secret that she wasn’t the only “monster” in the world. There would be other intriguing characters and good looking cast members and a doctor. There’s almost always a doctor. But then it happened.
A glance. A touch. An exam. And four little words uttered by the human Dr. Lauren Lewis to the unaligned succubus Bo- “My God you’re beautiful.”
Just like that a Faemily was born.
I was hooked. The doctor’s own response to her actions told you right away she was smitten and so was I. The way she drug her finger tips slowly down Bo’s back during the exam, all I could think was, “Damn, I’m gonna love this show!”
And I did. I still do. I always will. I’ve never been a fangirl, read fanfiction or even knew what a ship was before Doccubus. I had a Twitter account, but never used it. Lost Girl changed everything in more ways than I could ever have imagined and I embraced the world of Faedom.
Me and millions of others across the world rooting for and against the couple. Regardless of your ship there was a camaraderie on Twitter and Facebook. People sharing stories and supporting others. Even going as far as helping others through hard times. It wasn’t just the fans. It was the cast and crew taking time to interact, express thoughts of thanks, congratulations or sympathy. The family grew and so did the show. Lost Girl was quickly one of the most illegally downloaded shows as fans clamored to see it now, rather than whenever it may finally grace their tv screens.
It’s been a fantastic journey, but it’s coming to an end. Season five will be the last, airing now in December instead of September and stretching it to sixteen episodes that will stretch through the end of 2015. Speaking for myself, it was like a punch to the gut when I saw Anna’s announcement. Which, by the way, was a very classy move by all involved even though it broke millions of hearts.
While fans may have whined and complained when the show didn’t go our way, or left things hanging that we wished had been tied up, we can all agree that the “little Canadian show that could”, did a wonderful job with writing, effects, guest appearances and most of all, assembling the most warm and amazing cast that brought heart to their characters like I’d never seen. Aside from that, they destroyed the barriers of LBGT and sexuality on television. It was as ground breaking as it was heartwarming.
No matter who you were, there was a character to relate to. Off screen, they were all just as gracious and amazing. It only made us all love them even more. Here are some parting tweets from the cast via Twitter the last days on set:
