Few spoilers for the future TV show episodes: seems like Gabriel Dean is not coming back on the show. Jane is married to him in the books but Tess was told by the show creators that neither of the women will get marry on the show. That little tidbit got a lot of cheering from the audience who still entertaining the idea that LLBBF is not just a subtext.
Rizzoli & Isles is the only show out there right now with two strong female main characters and has the highest ratings on cable.
When Tess learned that there’s going to be a TV show about Rizzoli and Isles she had someone else in mind for the cast based on her description of her characters. In her books Jane is not at all pretty but when Angie Harmon got the job, Tess slowly warmed up to the idea because Angie brings so much humor and energy to the stories. That’s one more difference the show has because Tess admitted that she doesn’t think she’s funny and all her books are pretty dark.
Maura was harder to find because in the books she’s very reserved, dark, and almost Gothic. When they were doing screenings, none of the actresses had chemistry with Angie. When Sasha Alexander auditioned she didn’t look anything like Maura in the books but she got the job on the spot because of the actresses’ chemistry, which is very important. And now the show has been renewed for season 4.
Tess identifies more with Maura who has her personality. Incidentally, Maura Isles is also a real person because someone paid $1,000 for the rights to use that name in the books.

FYI, Chely has stated many times that she has lost many fans because she came out. But she has gained so much more, including her wife.
