Grow Old With Me – (Chapter: Family Feud)

When her dad left, I expected Ashley to break down and start crying, but she didn’t. Besides the anger on her face when she threw her shoe at the door, she remained completely stoic. I didn’t know what should scare me more.

“Ash…” I gently brushed against her arm.

    “Please don’t.”

    “Don’t what?”

“Don’t try to shrink me right now,” she said.

    “I wasn’t trying to-“

“I’m fine, okay? I’m pretty fucking angry, but I’m fine. I really would rather not talk about it right now,” she stated.

“Alright.” I fiddled with the zipper of my hoodie, wondering what I should do or say next. Apparently, though, Ashley did want to talk about it.

“What the fuck is his problem? He can’t just forget about me for an entire year; I haven’t exactly been low-profile. Who the fuck does he think he is, just showing up like this, expecting me to throw myself all over him like he’s some fucking hero returning from war?” she ranted. Her fists were curled up around the sheets of the hospital bed, knuckles red from the pressure.

“I’m sorry, Ash.” I wish I understood how she felt, but I knew I’d never be able to.

“Don’t apologize, Spencer. It’s not your fault that my dad is a total piece of shit.” What was I supposed to say to that? I didn’t know, so I said nothing. We sat in silence until the nurse walked in to give Ashley her evening medication. I could tell that her cheerful demeanor made Ashley want to slap her across the face, but luckily she remained calm. When the nurse left, I took Ashley’s hand and squeezed it lightly.

“I’m sorry if I’m taking this out on you. I’m trying not to, but I guess I’m not entirely succeeding,” she said.

“Don’t worry, babe. It’s okay,” I assured her. A tiny smile formed on her face and she kissed me gently.

    “Thanks.”

“But unclench your fists… that’s kind of freaking me out,” I said, only half joking. She laughed but unclenched them, pulling me closer to her with her now-free hands.

“Come here,” she requested, pointing to the small sliver of free space on the bed. I took off my shoes and lay down on my stomach, one of her legs between both of mine and my chin resting on her shoulder, smiling. “You’re beautiful.” I smiled even wider, if possible, and planted a peck on her lips.

    1. hey, I’m glad to see you’re still writing and posting this story! I think it’s wicked, and Ashley’s fame and how she deals with it is an interesting addition to the usual Spashley sagas! keep up the great work, I look forward to reading more soon! :-D

    2. I am so happy that you posted!!! I love this story. I feels so real, how a relationship actually is, mind you a little spashley won’t get any complaints here. Keep up the good work and I can’t wait for your next installment. PMS!!!!!!!!!!!

    3. Hmm, in the event Ashley wants to do some cover tunes during her next concert and dedicate them to Raife, may I suggest “I Hate Everything About You” by Three Days Grace, “Mr. Intentional” by Lauryn Hill and if Ashley feels like throwing down a rap song, “Cleaning Out My Closet” by Eminem. Oh well, I suppose there’s nothing left for Spencer and Ashley to do but got back to their apartment and comfort each other….a few times…in a few different rooms. Virtual high-5 for this fantastic update Kozmic. Oh, and no worries about the writers block. No matter what direction you take this story in, we’ll be reading.
