I Need My Best Friend – Part 8
Chapter Eight
Tuesday Morning
Bette was tired but it was a good tired. She had let herself almost drown in regret when she didn’t hear from Tina. She hadn’t realized how much she had counted on the letter until the silence nearly drove her over the edge. She had to talk to Foxworthy about this emotional wringer she seemed to be living in. But right now she needed to talk to James.
‘Bette Porter’s office.’
‘James it’s me. I’m calling to remind you that I’ll be late; I have an appointment this morning. I should be in by 11:00. I need you to do something for me.’
‘What do you need?’
‘Can you see if you can find information on exhibits for young children?’
‘Tina’s kids?’
‘Yeah, Tina’s kids, do you think you can you have something by the time I get in?’
‘I’ll see what I can do.’
‘Thanks James.’
Just as she laid her cell phone down it started to ring.
Laughing, ‘what did you forget James?’
‘Not James, Tina, you sound pretty upbeat considering you only had a few hours sleep.’
‘You sound tired and you actually slept!’
‘I’m sorry’
‘Don’t, we’re past that. It’s a gorgeous day here and believe it or not I’m actually looking forward to seeing Foxworthy this morning.’
‘Are you on your way?’
‘I’m almost there. Are you just waking up.’
‘I was on my way to breakfast and wanted to hear your voice.’
‘I’m glad you called.’
‘I’ll talk to you tonight.’
* * * * *
She was pleased with the way her session with Foxworthy went. She told him about the letter and how things had gone. She talked to him about her emotions and how out of control they were making her feel. She had made an appointment for them to see Foxworthy next Tuesday. She talked to him about seeing her friends. He thought spending time with her friends without Tina was a good idea.
She had called Kit on her way to the office to see if they could have dinner. She was still the only one she felt comfortable with. She knew the really hard stuff was going to come up when they started seeing Foxworthy together and she needed to talk to Kit.

This has be one of the most realistic, true-to-life conversations I have read yet. I like the fact that you don’t clutter your conversations with a whole lot of background editorial. It leaves the reader to draw their own conclusions as to what each character is feeling and thinking. I think this is quite refreshing and I can’t wait for your next chapter.
It nice to see this story posted.Great chapter, I will be looking for it soon.
Wow..Tina is like a ticking time bomb..I was quite surprised she reacted the way she did when they brought up ‘that night’..i guess Tina still has a lot of pent up anger inside her and if she doesn’t deal with it carefully, it may just explode prematurely and may cause a lot of damage to their relationship..this was an excellent chapter, asalways,..as always,..
Really good. Tina’s got alot of anger she has to deal with. She needs to start being as open as she wants Bette to be.
great, love the anger.
Tick,Tick,Tick…Boom!!!
I missed your series… This one still has drama without being melodramatic and yes I agree with TopLioness, it’s one of the most realistic ones. Loved your series. Can’t wait for your next chapter.
Been reading a lot of the new stories great that we are getting more of Tina’s side emotionally I still feel she had a greater part in their relationship falling apart. Good chapter
