I Need My Best Friend – Part 8
Bette had fallen asleep reading, waiting for Tina to call.
‘Did I wake you?’
‘That’s okay. How was your day.’
‘Very informative, so much to learn about government grants, how was your day?’
‘We have an appointment next Tuesday with Foxworthy. Is that all right for you?’
‘Sure. Did you talk to him about seeing the girls?’
‘We’re having dinner tomorrow night.’
‘Are you nervous?’
‘A little, but it’ll be okay.’
‘What did you do tonight?’
‘Kit cooked dinner for me.’
‘That must have been a treat, you love her cooking.’
‘Tina I’m really nervous about the things we’ll have to talk about with Foxworthy. Are you?’
‘What things are you nervous about?’
‘That last night, for one.’
‘Have you talked about it in your sessions?’
‘Yes, have you?’
The next thing Bette heard was the sound of a woman scorned!
‘Yes Bette, what do you want to do compare stories? Are you afraid my version won’t match the whitewashed version you told? I told the truth Bette, I didn’t hide anything. Did you tell him how you held me down, ripped my dress, or did you gloss over that part and start with how I hit you, bit you and shoved your’
The next thing Bette heard was a dial tone.
She had ripped the phone out of the wall. She sat there shaking, unable to catch her breath. Where the ***** did that come from? Bette had been so open about the things she discussed with Foxworthy, but she had held back. She had shared very little with Bette. She had been guarded about anything to do with her feelings all the while encouraging Bette to open up. She knew Bette was bound to ask about her sessions sooner or later, so why did she explode like that? Foxworthy had warned about not dealing with her anger. What would this do to all the progress they had made? Bette had opened up to her more this past week than she had in years, maybe ever. The very thing she had tried to avoid by suppressing her anger had happened anyway. She basically accused Bette of being a liar and trying to manipulate the situation to her benefit. She had to do something, but what? She wouldn’t be home for two more days she couldn’t wait until then. The phone on the desk across the room started to ring, she knew it would be Bette.

This has be one of the most realistic, true-to-life conversations I have read yet. I like the fact that you don’t clutter your conversations with a whole lot of background editorial. It leaves the reader to draw their own conclusions as to what each character is feeling and thinking. I think this is quite refreshing and I can’t wait for your next chapter.
It nice to see this story posted.Great chapter, I will be looking for it soon.
Wow..Tina is like a ticking time bomb..I was quite surprised she reacted the way she did when they brought up ‘that night’..i guess Tina still has a lot of pent up anger inside her and if she doesn’t deal with it carefully, it may just explode prematurely and may cause a lot of damage to their relationship..this was an excellent chapter, asalways,..as always,..
Really good. Tina’s got alot of anger she has to deal with. She needs to start being as open as she wants Bette to be.
great, love the anger.
Tick,Tick,Tick…Boom!!!
I missed your series… This one still has drama without being melodramatic and yes I agree with TopLioness, it’s one of the most realistic ones. Loved your series. Can’t wait for your next chapter.
Been reading a lot of the new stories great that we are getting more of Tina’s side emotionally I still feel she had a greater part in their relationship falling apart. Good chapter
