6 Months- chapter 16
Tina looked at the folded pages in front of her and quietly but deliberately, opened them. She saw Alice close her eyes, but lost her focus on her, concentrating only on what was in her hands. At first, all she saw was the graceful handwriting of Bette’s. Tina had always loved her writing, believing that it exhibited the strength and determination that was such a part of Bette.
She then started to focus on the words in front of her, everything and everyone else diminishing from the background.
“Dear Alice” the letter began.
Tina shifted in her seat to get more comfortable.
First of all, I am addressing you in this letter, but was hoping that you might share with Dana and Shane as well. I have a few things to tell you and thought that a letter may be the most civilized way of communicating my oh so jumbled thoughts.
By now, you may have realized that I am no longer in LA. Actually though, the more that I think of it, with our relationship having become what it has, maybe that is presumptuous of me to make that assumption.
I asked myself how I would begin this letter, and I determined, at the beginning. The problem though is that I don’t know if I know where the beginning is. I certainly know what the ending is, but the beginning? I will just have to take a stab at it.
As I hope the three of you know, your friendship has always meant the world to me. I have always known that you would be there for either Tina or me and you proved that over the years without fail.
I just wanted you to know that as I try to get all of this down.
I feel as if it is important to try and explain what happened between Tina and me, or at least the part that I know. We were all like a family and it was so special. The times that we all spent together have become cherished memories for me, never to be replaced by anything like it.
But the part that you don’t know is that Tina and I were not always what we came across as being. Perhaps when we were all together, our façade was a bit stronger than it was when it was just the two of us.
