    Chapter 59
Bette had felt her lover’s call vibrate against her hip as she wrapped up her speech. When the bronzed vice-presidential candidate made her way back to her seat, Sidney slid her a warm, friendly smile.

“You did great,” she whispered to Bette.

Bette grinned shyly. “Thank you,” she whispered in return.

As her competition made her way to the podium and began to speak, Bette’s dark brown eyes sized up her opposition before they stole a quick glance at the caller id.

She sighed and disappointment slid from her sad dark eyes and siphoned the confidence from her now drooping shoulders.

‘It’s Tina’, she thought. ‘I wonder what excuse she has now. I haven’t asked her for much. Just to be here for me. One time. That’s it. I knew she wasn’t going to make. I knew it.’

    Chapter 60

Bette won the election for VP by a landslide and shortly after her victory Sidney also joined the Queer Alliance executive board, as the Chairperson of the Dance Marathon. The meeting passed quickly and when it was all over and the congratulations and best wishes had finally faded away, Bette and Sidney stood together, uncomfortableness beginning to settle in around them. The majority of the meeting’s attendees had left the room and the former girlfriends moved closer to the door to make their exit.

Sidney didn’t want to mention Tina’s absence. She didn’t want to say the wrong thing to Bette. She’d already made too many mistakes where Bette was concerned and she didn’t want to ruin any chance at a friendship with the woman at her side.

“Did you….did you see Dana at the meeting?” Sidney finally asked.

Bette thought for a moment and replied. “No, I didn’t.”

“I wonder what happened to her. She told me she was coming.”

Bette nodded in response as they made their way down the hall and out of the building. She didn’t want to be hurt by Tina’s failure to appear. She didn’t want it to be so important to her. But it was. And Bette couldn’t help but feel deserted once again. She tried not to let the disappointment she felt show, but a slow moving cloak of sadness had begun to sap the vibrance that had been there at the beginning of the meeting.

    1. I’m really not comfortable with Bette and Sidney in such an enclosed space together. And I still don’t get why Tina had to leave right then. I’m going to trust you though since you said you wouldn’t hurt our girls.

    2. Well I am so comfortable with Bette and Sydney being close together. I really like Sydney and think she is a good match for Bette. Never once have you given me reasons to hate her, I like that you don’t make her evil just to make it easier. Post soon!

    3. I held my breathe the whole time I read this because I feared what was going to happen between Bette and Sydney, and then you go and leave it at that. Please don’t make me hold my breathe long before you post again. Maybe this will make Tina appreciate Bette more, but please make everything turns out okay with Bette and Tina.

    4. Gosh what makes people think T doesn’t appreciate Bette, she is in transition so there are going to be times when it will be hard for her to be totally out in public. She is deeply in love with Bette and is trying to be there to support her in all she does. Bette should thank Syd for allowing her to see her work and go home and wait for Tina to get back.

    5. Well, smiley, I never claimed (recently anyway) that I hate Sidney. HOWEVER it’s all about B&T so Sidney can suck it up and deal. As for this thing about Tina not appreciating Bette, that’s not the case for me. I just think she could’ve poked her head into the meeting at least. Oh well B&TF is with me so that counts for something. ;)

    6. I’m just happy you continued this story!! I agree that Tina is still in transition, but she didn’t have to rush off. She could have waited until after the election, then Bette probably would have gone with her. I think Sidney means well. Bette needs a friend.

    7. Gosh, I am SOOOOO GLAD they are stilling whispering, and u are continuing to listen!!! As long as u continue to write, I will definitely always read. Did I ever tell u this is MY FAVORITE, FAVORITE fan fic, and the one that got me hooked??? So, as long as and whenever u post, please know u have a reader and fan always looking for it and always happy to have a post to READ from U!!! GREAT chap!! I agree Tina could have stopped by and caught Bette and told her in person. Also, I think Sidney would make a good friend and confidant to and for Bette. Please Post SOOOON!!

    8. I know everyone is going to disagree but i think it is time for Bette and Sidney to be friends. Sure Tina won’t like this but Bette and Sid have so much in common (apart from what Bette and Tina share). And Tina has to know how committed Bette is to her. Just b/c Bette and Sid become friends doesn’t mean they will fall back into bed with one another. They’ve done enough damge to the other that i think a friendship is all they will ever have. Bette has made it all to clear that she only has eyes for Tina and Sidney knows this so I do not see a problem w/ a Bette and Sidney friendship. PPS! Just love this sory.

    9. I’m glad B took Sid’s advice & checked her phone…very sensible…however I still don’t understand why T got into crisis mode and rushed to Courtney…the election was barely over & T was still driving there… B needed her gf’s support & I say look after your own first…not that I don’t have sympathy for the child & her mom; been there…It will be cool for B to have a friend who shares her interests so hope T can give her/them that space with out going ‘all green’…still enjoying this…thx

    10. I have to agree with Rau. Sounds like Tina could have been there for Bette and then for Courtney. But since Bette is fine with Tin decision, that’s all that counts. A friendship with Syd will be nice for Bette and long as she knows there is no going back.

    11. MTS, That was great. Bette did the right thing at Sidney’s prompting. By checking her voicemail, she found out the reason for Tina’s non-appearance at the meeting. Then by speaking to Tina, Bette got the full impact of Tina’s motivation. The molestation of a child is one of the most heinous act therefore Tina had to go to her. Bette understands this completely. As for Sidney and Bette, nice to see that both these gals realize that their relationship failed because they were pulling in different directions. Sidney wasn’t ready for the committment fo a full blown relationship and Bette was ignortant of her feelings for Tina. Great to see them beginning to reconnect as friends. Bette was totally honored to be the first to see Sidney’s latest art project. Now what will Tina think of this all??? I wanna know. Please post more of this delightful drama soon. Many thanks from Your Loyal Fan.
