“Lara?” asked Bette.
Lara pulled a few loose strands of hair behind her ear. “Hey Bette.”
Dana suddenly appeared at Lara’s side. “Hey Bette.”
The tennis player’s nervous eyes darted from Bette to the blonde at her side. “And Sidney? Hey guys.”
Dana tossed Bette a confused gaze.
“Hey to you, too,” Sidney replied.
“What’s going on?” asked Bette, her eyes staring at the purplish-red mark on Dana’s neck.
Nervousness dripped from Dana’s response. “Nothing. We were just hanging out. I’m gonna go walk Lara out. I’ll see you guys.”
Before Sidney and Bette could reply, Dana and her hickey-giving friend were gone.
“Well, I guess we know why she didn’t make the meeting,” said Sidney.
Bette rolled her eyes. “Go figure.”
They moved inside the room and Sidney closed the door behind them.
“Hold on just a second. I’ve gotta grab the drawings,” said Sidney. She dropped her keys on her desk and went searching.
Bette took the moment of silence and looked around their triple. Her eyes studied Sidney’s desk and came to rest on the photos of she and Bette. Seeing those pictures was like walking backwards through time. There was a time not long ago when Bette had stood in this space with the expectation of being loved and held. A time when their relationship was anything but plutonic.
The bronzed beauty took a deep breath. Her thoughts we interrupted by Sidney’s sweet voice.
“I just…I never took them down.”
Bette nodded and cleared her throat. “Are you ready?”
Sidney smiled. “I am. Here’s the first one.”
Sidney stretched out the drawing widthwise across the length of her body. It was 19” tall and 25” wide.
Tears rose to Bette’s eyes. She stared at the drawing, seeing the dark strokes of charcoal through a watery haze.
“Sidney….it’s beautiful,” she whispered.
The scene before her was captivating. It was a silhouette of a young woman gazing out at an art exhibit. The young woman stood in the lower right-hand corner, her back facing anyone peering into her world. Long curls cascaded down her back and in her profile a slight smile was visible. Gallery walls, paintings, people, and ambience filled the scene. Beyond the gallery, the Los Angeles skyline glittered in the background. Tall buildings, sidewalks, and a sunset rounded out the sketch’s deep dimensions and as the first tears rolled down her cheeks, Bette saw a small building in the cityscape that caught her eye. It was labeled “Bette’s Gallery” in tiny upward sloping script.
Bette wiped at her tears, her dark eyes studying the masterpiece before her. She knew that the silhouette belonged to her.
“When did you do this?” asked Bette.
Sidney’s voice was soft, her eyes studying Bette’s reaction. “I started it a few weeks after we broke up. I’d done some work with charcoals before – – -,” she began.
Bette looked up and met her eyes. “I remember.”
“And I just needed something to help me through the breakup. So I started to draw. I just finished it about a month or so ago. I was still working on the details.”
Bette knew the scene well. It was their date at LACMA. The date where she and Sidney ran into Tina and Eric.

I’m really not comfortable with Bette and Sidney in such an enclosed space together. And I still don’t get why Tina had to leave right then. I’m going to trust you though since you said you wouldn’t hurt our girls.

Well I am so comfortable with Bette and Sydney being close together. I really like Sydney and think she is a good match for Bette. Never once have you given me reasons to hate her, I like that you don’t make her evil just to make it easier. Post soon!
I held my breathe the whole time I read this because I feared what was going to happen between Bette and Sydney, and then you go and leave it at that. Please don’t make me hold my breathe long before you post again. Maybe this will make Tina appreciate Bette more, but please make everything turns out okay with Bette and Tina.
Gosh what makes people think T doesn’t appreciate Bette, she is in transition so there are going to be times when it will be hard for her to be totally out in public. She is deeply in love with Bette and is trying to be there to support her in all she does. Bette should thank Syd for allowing her to see her work and go home and wait for Tina to get back.
Well, smiley, I never claimed (recently anyway) that I hate Sidney. HOWEVER it’s all about B&T so Sidney can suck it up and deal. As for this thing about Tina not appreciating Bette, that’s not the case for me. I just think she could’ve poked her head into the meeting at least. Oh well B&TF is with me so that counts for something. ;)
I’m just happy you continued this story!! I agree that Tina is still in transition, but she didn’t have to rush off. She could have waited until after the election, then Bette probably would have gone with her. I think Sidney means well. Bette needs a friend.

I know everyone is going to disagree but i think it is time for Bette and Sidney to be friends. Sure Tina won’t like this but Bette and Sid have so much in common (apart from what Bette and Tina share). And Tina has to know how committed Bette is to her. Just b/c Bette and Sid become friends doesn’t mean they will fall back into bed with one another. They’ve done enough damge to the other that i think a friendship is all they will ever have. Bette has made it all to clear that she only has eyes for Tina and Sidney knows this so I do not see a problem w/ a Bette and Sidney friendship. PPS! Just love this sory.
I’m glad B took Sid’s advice & checked her phone…very sensible…however I still don’t understand why T got into crisis mode and rushed to Courtney…the election was barely over & T was still driving there… B needed her gf’s support & I say look after your own first…not that I don’t have sympathy for the child & her mom; been there…It will be cool for B to have a friend who shares her interests so hope T can give her/them that space with out going ‘all green’…still enjoying this…thx
I have to agree with Rau. Sounds like Tina could have been there for Bette and then for Courtney. But since Bette is fine with Tin decision, that’s all that counts. A friendship with Syd will be nice for Bette and long as she knows there is no going back.

MTS, That was great. Bette did the right thing at Sidney’s prompting. By checking her voicemail, she found out the reason for Tina’s non-appearance at the meeting. Then by speaking to Tina, Bette got the full impact of Tina’s motivation. The molestation of a child is one of the most heinous act therefore Tina had to go to her. Bette understands this completely. As for Sidney and Bette, nice to see that both these gals realize that their relationship failed because they were pulling in different directions. Sidney wasn’t ready for the committment fo a full blown relationship and Bette was ignortant of her feelings for Tina. Great to see them beginning to reconnect as friends. Bette was totally honored to be the first to see Sidney’s latest art project. Now what will Tina think of this all??? I wanna know. Please post more of this delightful drama soon. Sidney scares me a bit. I know that they are friends but with Bette’s unease with Tina right now, being alone with Sidney could lead to something they may not want to happen.
