Christmas with the Kennards- Chapter 6

    Chapter 6

Bette’s eyes flew open at the sound of crashing pots coming from Donna Kennard’s kitchen.  A quick survey of the room told Bette exactly what she needed to know, she had overslept on Christmas morning.  She stretched, certain that the enormous clatter coming from the kitchen was everyone’s polite way of waking her from her deep slumber.

“I’m coming,” Bette muttered as she stood and stretched her aching back given her sleeping accommodations.  “It’s not like I haven’t participated enough already.”

As Bette rubbed the sleep out of her eyes, she opened the door to find Alice holding a large wooden spoon and an empty metal bowl.  She was clanging the spoon against the bowl as if it were a drum, shocked to see Bette emerge from the room so quickly.

“I got the point, Al,” Bette said, glaring at her friend.

“It was someone else’s idea,” Alice offered willingly.  “I’m just a willing participant.”

“It’s not like we’re all kids again.  We can’t sleep in on Christmas morning?”

“Not in the Kennard house,” Alice replied with a smile.

Bette walked further into the house, seeing various gifts in piles around the living room and everyone enjoying a cup of coffee.  She offered a weak smile as Tina rose to her feet to greet her, placing a small kiss on her pouty lips.

“I offered to wake you differently,” Tina said with a seductive smile.

“Something I’m sure an air mattress is not comfortable for,” Bette shot back thankful for the mug of fresh coffee Shane shoved in her direction.

“Are we ready for gifts?” Donna asked wearing her snowman pajamas she had made specifically for the festive events of Christmas morning.

Without waiting for an answer, Donna began pointing to various piles and assigning people to the corresponding seats.

“It’s always tradition that we go around and open one person at a time,” Donna said sitting next to her pile.  “This way we can all see what everyone else has opened.”

“Fair enough,” Bette agreed as she watched Donna place a present in the middle of the room.

“That’s for all of you, but it’s going to be the last one you open.”

Tina eyed the package cautiously causing Bette to smile in her lover’s direction.  She couldn’t help but liken Tina’s expression to that of someone waiting for a mouse to appear and scurry across the floor.

    1. Thanks Gumby for yet another great story. I laughed often and loudly. It has been such a comforting treat throughthe wonderful and hottible hiliday. And, uh, I think Conna must have bought at least one of my gifts. Looking forward to your next story, whenever you have some time. I’ll hope that you win the lottery. I mean if I can’t win.

    2. She hardly seems a butch at times, but on others it’s the only word that can describe her, Thanks my dear Gamb, reading this story really puts you in the Holiday spirit, and mode, it’s so cheerful and full of beautiful funny events, and it make you wish to be there to witness all of those things as apart of that wonderful family. Donna is unbelievable, she is the most funny character in the story, and here I thought that no body will take Alice’s place. Post soon Hun, and have a great Holiday. Love

    3. A toolbox for Bette the Butch. LOL! Aside from wanting to hurl herself out of the nearest window, I was half expecting Bette to exclaim “Kill me now!” too. ;> Thanks a lot for this funny Christmas tale, Gumby! Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and have a blessed, happy new year! :)

    4. For some reason, whenever B & T are with the Kennards it bring up memories of a dumbed down version of the Beverly Hillbillies. This chapter was hysterical…especially Dana and Tina’s presents…then her expalnation on Bette’s….priceless. Great story and great writing Gumby!
