    When Hope Is Lost

The one thing that mother and son loved to do in the mornings and at night, was prepare meals together. They had found some good cookbooks that made cooking easy and they both wanted to learn to do it better. So, they made sure that they had all the ingredients that they’d need for the week as they did their meal planning on Sunday mornings before grocery shopping. Ozzie and Bette were becoming an incredible family team together.

One Saturday night, Bette and Ozzie decided to make homemade pizza. So, they found a recipe for whole-wheat dough for the crust and made that first. While it was rising, they cut up veggies and also took out the thinly sliced Prosciutto to place on part of the pizza. As they chopped, they talked.

    “Mom?”

“Yes, Sweetie, what can I do for you?”

“Well, I was wondering about your family. Will you tell me?”

“Okay… Well, my dad’s name is Melvin, he’s a lawyer and lives in Philadelphia with his new wife, Genna. He’s about 65 years old now and Genna is 60 I believe. They’ve been married for about twenty years I think.”

“Do you see your dad and other mom?”

“It’s a bit difficult to explain things about he and I. He’s always been such a driven man and consequently he drove Kit, my older sister and I to do our best with everything we involved ourselves in. As long as we did well, he was good to us and offered support. If we messed up we didn’t hear the end of it for weeks.

When I took my wife to meet him, he was such a mean man because he couldn’t handle the fact that I’m with a woman as a partner and not a man. I never went back to see him and Genna. I haven’t seen him for about five years or so. I occasionally send him an email and talk about non-important things and he sends me back information on what he and Genna are doing.

Kit doesn’t have much to do with him as he gave her such a hard time when she was experiencing her own difficulties with life. It makes me sad that my dad has been such a difficult person towards us as we got older. I don’t think he’d be such a great grampa to you. He doesn’t share much love with anyone but Genna.”

    1. Loving the direction this story is taking. Now with Maxine about to re-appear in Bettes life as well its all very exciting.Just looking forward to that moment when they both meet again after such a long time and how Bette reacts….and at some point in the distant future the moment that Tina and Bette meet again.PPS

    2. Love how this story is coming together. Just wondering..are Allyn and Maxine together? Can’t quite figure out the conversation with Peggy and Allyn about where Maxine fits in! Please post soon…

    3. Im so interested to see how tina and bette will meet again. 1st i thought it would b thru peggy but thats not happening anytime soon. Then i thought thru kit with email but that didnt happen either. Cant wait for them to meet again and what circumstance. Pps

    4. Hmm, seems like Allyn and Peggy are playing with people’s lives a bit; deliberately taking Bette’s name off the gallery’s website is them engineering things, not letting the Universe work its magic. And if Allyn knows Maxine, well… A possible very painful reunion is not meant to be a spectator sport. There’s also a good chance that Bette may miss the birth of the baby, but that’s information for Tina to relay. I’ll just have to wait and see how everything unfolds. Thanks for posting.

    5. Still reading and waiting for the tide to turn in this story. I’m rooting for them, I really am but I can’t help my dislike for Tina. You are the first writer to make me not like Tina but continue to read. Amazing, thank you bumsue and happy new year ✌😁

    6. I’m smelling some drama brewing in the air… I feel bad that Bette might not be there when Tina gives birth to their baby but i hope that things will be alright between them eventually, however i still believe that Tina has to earn her spot in Bette’s life. NO matter how long it will take I’m in for the ride, thanks Sue!

    7. YAY,YAY,YAY!!! What a wonderful chain of events. When I was reading yesterday or whenever it was(I have the flu I think) my one question for Allyn was how did she know Maxine. Now I think I know, from the conversation between Peggy and Allyn it seems as they are partners. From your typing hands to Gods’ ear. I only hope when Bette gets to meet her mother again that she won’t go off on her but try and understand the circumstances that Maxine was going thru at that time. Hopefully with these sessions that Bette is experiencing she will have a softer attitude toward her mother. You have answered a number of my questions with this chapter. Please conntine the great writing.
