    When Hope Is Lost

“Well, maybe could we go and see him sometime?”

    “You’d want to do that?”

“Momma, he your daddy! Maybe he like me.”

“Well, if there was anyone who could turn him around, it would be you, my angel boy. You’re sure about this?”

    “Yep, you live there before?”

“Yes, I grew up in Philadelphia. It’s a fun city with lots to do. It could be fun to show you around. If you’re sure about this, then I’ll call him and ask if we can come.”

“That be cool, Momma. Maybe we can go soon.”

“We’ll see. I’ll call him tomorrow.”

    “Thanks, Momma… I love you.”

“I love you, too, Sweetie. Look the pizza dough is ready to use. Are you ready to make pizza?”

“Yep, let’s have fun.” Ozzie replied and off they went to make their pizzas.

Their dinner that night was quite delicious. They enjoyed three different varieties of pizza plus had some salad. While they ate they talk about Kit, Bette’s older sister. Ozzie found out that she was older by four years. She had been a successful blues singer for quite a while but lost her career when she became an alcoholic. Now, after rehab, she was a successful owner of a café/restaurant/nightclub in LA called The Planet. He was quite excited to meet her, too.

She was also trying to get back into her singing and had several performers who wanted her to sing with them on albums. She was grateful for the offers. When he asked her if he could meet his aunt, Bette had to tell him that she hadn’t talked to her for quite a while. When Ozzie asked why, Bette had a hard time answering him. Truth be told, she really missed having Kit in her life. She felt so alone without her.

As it was, Bette and he both took some leftover pizza for lunch the next day. They had so much fun making it, it was put on the favorites’ list of recipes. Bette looked upon these shared moments with her son as little jewels in her day. He was such a kind and considerate person, even at such a young age. He asked her questions about herself that were gentle and caused her to feel safe enough to answer him.

    1. Loving the direction this story is taking. Now with Maxine about to re-appear in Bettes life as well its all very exciting.Just looking forward to that moment when they both meet again after such a long time and how Bette reacts….and at some point in the distant future the moment that Tina and Bette meet again.PPS

    2. Love how this story is coming together. Just wondering..are Allyn and Maxine together? Can’t quite figure out the conversation with Peggy and Allyn about where Maxine fits in! Please post soon…

    3. Im so interested to see how tina and bette will meet again. 1st i thought it would b thru peggy but thats not happening anytime soon. Then i thought thru kit with email but that didnt happen either. Cant wait for them to meet again and what circumstance. Pps

    4. Hmm, seems like Allyn and Peggy are playing with people’s lives a bit; deliberately taking Bette’s name off the gallery’s website is them engineering things, not letting the Universe work its magic. And if Allyn knows Maxine, well… A possible very painful reunion is not meant to be a spectator sport. There’s also a good chance that Bette may miss the birth of the baby, but that’s information for Tina to relay. I’ll just have to wait and see how everything unfolds. Thanks for posting.

    5. Still reading and waiting for the tide to turn in this story. I’m rooting for them, I really am but I can’t help my dislike for Tina. You are the first writer to make me not like Tina but continue to read. Amazing, thank you bumsue and happy new year ✌😁

    6. I’m smelling some drama brewing in the air… I feel bad that Bette might not be there when Tina gives birth to their baby but i hope that things will be alright between them eventually, however i still believe that Tina has to earn her spot in Bette’s life. NO matter how long it will take I’m in for the ride, thanks Sue!

    7. YAY,YAY,YAY!!! What a wonderful chain of events. When I was reading yesterday or whenever it was(I have the flu I think) my one question for Allyn was how did she know Maxine. Now I think I know, from the conversation between Peggy and Allyn it seems as they are partners. From your typing hands to Gods’ ear. I only hope when Bette gets to meet her mother again that she won’t go off on her but try and understand the circumstances that Maxine was going thru at that time. Hopefully with these sessions that Bette is experiencing she will have a softer attitude toward her mother. You have answered a number of my questions with this chapter. Please conntine the great writing.
