Fée Marraine: A Fairy Tale in Four Parts (4)

    Previously…

Bette shut the door and Max began pulling away. Tina turned and waved out the window and watch Bette retreat behind her. Now on the road, Tina touched her ears and felt the cool touch of the diamonds and remembered how warm Bette’s fingers were when she’d placed them in her ears.

We’re beautiful like diamonds in the sky. She heard Stella’s voice, now forever silenced, echo in her mind. And without realizing it, she chanted out loud another verse from the song, “You’re a shooting star…I see a vision of ecstasy.”

Gus and Shane looked at her, and Shane asked, “Excited to meet Helena Peabody, aren’t you?”

Tina shook her head slowly. “No,” she said. “Not really.”

Max turned up the sound system then, and they drove toward Beverly Hills, toward the large and luxurious estate of Helena Peabody.

Yet Tina’s thoughts were elsewhere, lost in the image of warm brown eyes, swirling like a cluster of stars in the depths of galaxies.

There was a line of cars—taxis and limousines, town cars and luxury sedans, all waiting at the gate to the Peabody Beverly Hills Estate. A security detail was checking each car, verifying the passengers had tickets to the event.

When Max pulled the limo up to the gate, a man dressed in a black blazer and a radio earpiece bent over and glanced inside.

    “Name. Tickets,” he said.

Tina reached over Max’s shoulder and handed the two tickets to him and recited off their names. He checked something on his clipboard, looked once again at the four inhabitants of the limo, and then said to Max, “Someone will direct you where to park the limousine once you’ve dropped off at the front.” Then he nodded at Tina, smiled a little, and said, “Enjoy your evening, ma’am.”

Through the gates now, they were each getting more excited.

“Her property goes on for miles and miles,” Max observed as he drove down the long driveway, lined with colorful lights. He was driving slowly as the cars in front of him were doing.

“More like acres and acres,” Gus corrected.

Shane gave Tina’s hand a squeeze. “It’s almost like meeting the Queen of England, isn’t it? Are you excited?”

Shane had asked Tina that very question over an hour ago when they’d first started on their way. At the time, Tina was a bit ambivalent. Her sudden awareness of Bette’s attention on her, her beauty and kind eyes had dulled her interest in Helena Peabody. But now, seeing the opulent wealth of the Peabody estate, the large and forbidding iron entry gate, the manicured lawn, the fountains and gardens along the way, and the looming mansion ahead, Tina’s earlier fascination with the woman had returned.

    1. I know I’m two weeks late. Bad BenMac, bad girl! And I realize this chapter should have been broken into two chapters. But four is a factor of eight and eight is my special number. Also, I had this cool graphic I found on Twitter of Cinderella dancing with a princess, but I’m not skilled like Blackbird and don’t know how to upload it to the story. Bummer.

Anyway, this was fun to write and light and sweet with no tears. I have a single chapter short story that is soul crushing, but Dainty told me not to post it ’cause you all would storm my house if I posted a sad TiBette tale with a devastating ending. So I guess I’ll start to work on either the crime detective or high fantasy (both with happy endings!). I’m trying my hand at many genres so I can learn from them. And the zombies are still lurking somewhere in my notes.

Thanks for reading and commenting and tweeting and emailing and sending me good thoughts and vibes.

      xoxo,
      BenMac

      • 2 weeks late – what’s 2 weeks! I’m sure I speak for many when I say I don’t mind waiting to read stories such as this written by you.

Thank you for this and all your other previous stories particularly, Bette’s 2nd Grade Crush, The Groves and , of course, the eternal rocks… You make me laugh, you make me cry, you scare me but most of all you entertain me.

I’m glad you did not split this into two Chapters, you spared us a wait for the next part. This was a great story to wake up to here in the UK and you’ve got my day off to a wonderful start, so, again, Thank You.

Loved the link to the Song and don’t worry about not linking to a photo. I bet Blackbird would be pleased to help though. You 2 are like *Diamonds in the Sky* of Writers.

Can’t handle a Tibette story with a devastating end Ben but look forward to the other *gems* from your pen be they detectives or zombies!

Happy Holidays Ben and look forward to your next post, I really did *Enjoy*!

      • Fantastic chapter. Happy they did get together and undoubtedly will have a happy life together along with little Tinas’ and little Bettes running around. It was indeed a modern day fairy tale. I can imagine the three ugly roommates reactions when Tina won the award. Good for them for the way they treated her. Take care, hope you and family have a wonderful holiday season. See you next year. Thanks for sharing the story with us.

    3. Thank you for posting again another extraordinary story. When I see you posted I am always exited to read any new chapter of your stories. You really have me intrigued with your comment about the short story and perhaps you could post it under the topic of ‘creative writing’ so as not to have your house being stormed. 5. I loved this story, but it came as no surprise since I love everything you write! And it also made me reread H+, one of my all time favorites, right up there with The Groves. I’ll be looking forward to reading your future stories, I hope we will eventually see both the crime detective and the high fantasy. It is just a joy to see a new post from you and to read that you intend to keep writing. 9. BenMac..This is my first comment to this story and for any of your fanfic..Between my storytelling and all I haven’t been able to read as much but…WOW!! Amazing!

Can’ say enough about it. This was an enjoyment to read from start to finish and it’s no wonder that you are in a different stratosphere when it comes to writing along with several others on here.

Thanks for inspiring! Enjoy the holidays and I am slowly trying to finish your other phenomenonal works!

    10. I lost track of what you write about.
you’re my favorite author, because if I remember correctly
was for you that I stopped being a silent reader.
I love all his works, is that you know that I love
the “eternal rocks”, I told this story
deserves to be published in a book with night
autograph, but today is not the eternal rocks, but
your new story. I have not read or are reading now.
I want to do for tomorrow when I get home from work
knowing that I will have a wonderful story waiting for me.
When I finish reading tomorrow I’ll do my comment.
Good rest, and I will await your return.
      love you
      All the stars for you.

      Note: sorry my English.

    11. That was absolute perfection. You my dear never disappoint. I know most of us want a happy ending for TiBette, but a sad story is okay to read, as long as it is not a story where they are cheating on one another, I can handle one of death and loss, it is a natural part of life, as long as there is some love and happiness before the sadness.

    12. Finally managed to read this story
      enchanted, loved it!
I will not praise you, all right! you
is fantastic !!!! my favorite writer.
This time you do not take my tears, as
made me the eternal rocks (my favorite), but I traveled
      to the enchanted world, with this modern history;
Cinderella, and you gave us a message
even with this digital age modern world, we can not
forget to be good with people greet
the input or output, and have a clean conduct.
      All the stars for you.
Note: I had problems to complete and finish this story to
everything wrong that happened to me since 25, the provider
my internet has given cart when I was halfway
history, boom! be without internet again, and was now
      finish with no problem.

    13. My apologies for the belated reply…I haven’t been around much these last several months, but I just caught up with this one and wanted to comment on how spectacular a tale it has been. Cinderella was always my Disney favorite as a child. Also, I enjoyed seeing the earring plot make it into this story. It was a touching throwback to the show. I would ask if that was intentional, but after reading all of your stories, I don’t suppose I have to raise that question as your writing is always filled with thoughtful allusions.
