Bette’s House – Bette
It wasn’t that I physically could not get out of bed this morning – when my alarm first went off at seven – it was more that Tina was babying me after yesterday. Letting me know – I’d done a lot of heavy emotional lifting lately, and if I’d wanted an extra half hour to sleep, by all means — take it.
With that tactic encouragement, I’d smacked the top of my alarm clock to not bother me again, dug myself down into a well of soft pillows, and fallen back to sleep.
The phone’s ringing had awakened me, and reaching for it I see the time. What?! Nine- the-fuck-o’clock! Now, I’m late for everything. My hand knocks the landline from its cradle – a clattering of everything against itself on my bedside table begins.
Diving down onto the floor for the ringing phone, I wonder why on earth Tina left without telling me? Aggravated, I snap at the caller. ”Yes! Hello?! Bette Porter speaking.”
A Hispanic woman’s voice, rough but sexy says, ”This is Doctor Sophia Perez. Your daughter, Angelica’s in my infirmary.”
”I’m on my way. I can be there in thirty minutes. Is she alright? Is she hurt? What happened?” All the while leaping around my bedroom for clothes to put on.
”Mostly, Ms. Porter, she just needs her mother. Her wrist’s had a bad sprain, and she should come home for the day.”
”Of course!” Backing out of my driveway, I realize I’m talking to the school on my landline. Shit! Should I stop? Go back inside? ”Dr. Perez, I’m going to lose reception any minute.” Frantically, I paw through my purse. Don’t tell me I left my cell phone. . .
”Angelica’s arm will need to elevated. We’ll go over the. . .” Then, the line goes dead.
Shaolin Studio – Tina
My meeting with Claire, my hired gun PR whiz and her network of not so above board spies, is going well. Aaron’s demise is certain, her sources say he’s ruined – as well as being kneecapped by the Bookie’s Enforcer – come this Friday.
Claire drops a stack of dossiers on my desk she’s put together for me. ”How’s your rock ’em sock ’em management proposal coming? You’ll be ready to pounce, won’t you?”

Wow! Blackbird, what an exciting cliffhanger and direction to go with the story. Completely caught me off-guard. I wasn’t expecting Bette to be kidnapped. Does Aaron have a connection to this or is it the SheBar ladies trying to drag Kit down even further?

Loved this chapter. Bette is very resourceful and hopefully she figures out a way to escape. Or Tina becomes a detective and saves her women.

What timing; Bette sleeps in the day she is kidnapped…I figured out it was Bette the moment a kidnapped lady appeared..Let’s see the only mob connection here has to do with Aaron; but I don’t think you are heading in that direction…you brought Penny into the story…mystery rich lady…always trouble there…so I am going with that…Penny has enemies…like the fact you are giving you’re readers a chance to participate in the story line…On another note; doesn’t Shane always have a stalker? Shane certainty does have magnetism with the ladies…Good to keep Joyce still in play. Kit has some serious problems with those bitches owning the SheBar…like that being kept in the chapter too…hope Kit finds some dirt on them…you are killing me here having to wait to see what is happening with Bette…your writing is awesome…Blackbird.

Great. I think there may be some possibilities:
a) Maybe related to Bette’s mother (though the gangsters were Italians and the kidnappers are Latinos, probably Mexicans)
b) Maybe related to the 20 millions that Bette got from donation, though the kidnappers indicate that “this is not a negotiation”
c) Maybe related to Tina’s sister (from Texas) looking for retaliation
d) Maybe related to the She Bar Dembo and Cindy that want to destroy Kit’s business
e) Maybe related to Shane’s mother and the drugs she is selling now to bury her mother, or with the deb Aaron (from Shaolin) has, although in both cases the kidnappers indicate that there is not negotiation.
Any way it looks like there is a retaliation of some kind (Tina’s sister, Jody, even Jenny), or maybe the kidnappers want to ask for money in exchange for Bette.
Wow this is thrilling, hope you give us the next chapter really soon, I don’t know if I could sleep thinking about it

Intriguing turn of events in the new chapter. I think you caught everyone off guard & successfully added that great level of suspense.
Many options arise for who these kidnappers are
* the mafia connection from Bette’s mother’s past
* Tina’s lacky low life sister out for revenge
* the movie connection with Aaron & trying to short circuit Tina’s plans
* the Miami She Bar bitches
* the new connection with the old flame from Bette’s after the $20M or more
So could be any if them or another angle I haven’t thought of yet.
Also thought that the gypsy visit was about the past betrayal by Bette & what she saw was Tina’s reaction to the affair with Candice.
But it could very well have been a foreshadowing of the current situation with Bette’s disappearance and Tina’s reaction to Bette’s not being there or presumed death since the police found her burnt out car.
Lots to angles to ponder & thanks so much for an eventful chapter. The next several chapters will test everyone’s resolve and devotion to one another.
We know that Bette will do EVERYTHING in her power to get back to her family. Although it would be a true mind bending trip if she had to pick between Tina & her mother. Lots of emotions & turmoil.

An intriguing twist to heat things up but why kidnap BETTE?Kidnap ANGIE/TINA and you get everything you could ask for.Since TINA believes in her psychic lets see if she can find BETTE or reveal who has her.EVERYBODY is a suspect in this one.thanks
