    Why Do I Love You?

    “I see.”

Carol looked at her through the mirror, lips upturned in a slight smile.

“And if you’re able to meet this Eleanor or other people like her …”

“Then I’m pretty sure I’d be able to dazzle her, don’t you think?” Carol asked with a smile. “And, as Isabel said, I’d be made!”

Umm… you can dazzle anyone you want to, Carol, Therese thought. She licked her lips in anticipation as Carol set her brush down and stood, gracefully turning away from the mirror to face Therese, who was relaxing against the headboard of their queen-size bed.

As she advanced slowly towards the bed, robe unbelted, its lapels parting to reveal the dazzling nude body underneath, Carol purred, “Now, do you want to keep talking about all that … or about anything at all?”

Unnhnnn … no, Carol, Therese thought, it’s not talking time. They locked eyes as Carol raised a bare knee onto the bed.  She shrugged off her red silk robe and parted Therese’ legs with her hands as she advanced slowly, kissing her way up the pajama clad body of her lover.  “I don’t know why you bother with this, Therese,” she whispered silkily before slowly unbuttoning the first button.

    Good question, honey.

“I, for one, hope our child would grow to love the art we’re buying even now,” David mused as he set his cognac snifter down. He was signing up to be a supporter for the Whitney museum that the Whitneys were setting up.  And he and Pernille were fans of the Expressionist school that had relocated from the Upper West Side down to Greenwich Village, too.

The four were relaxing in front of the fire after finishing with the high tea they’d consumed in the hotel’s café.

“I love children,” Therese said quietly, as she stared at the fire. Carol had Brindy, that was true, but they’d been able to have her delightful little girl over only once thus far the whole time that Therese and Carol had been together.

The three others looked at her in silence, uncertain about how to respond.

Was there a child in their future? A girl or boy they could adopt?

Get a hold of yourself, Therese. First, wonder about whether you do, indeed, have a future with Carol.  All signs pointed to a future together … but was that only because they were excited about being together right now?

    1. There is more😉 A lot more! When I think of Carol I imagine her in Chanel, as she embodies one of the best quotes of Mademoiselle Chanel, “A woman has to be two things: classy and fabulous.” That’s Carol, right? And when I think of Therese I think of her as an Yves Saint Laurent muse, when YSL was the King of couture. These two present so well as characters, and inhabit such a richly interesting and authentic time and world, so unlike the flat and kitschy one of today (sometimes, what passes for class and quality these days is perplexing, right?), that one can’t help but be inspired. I wish I had the time to write.

Not so sure that others on the site share this view, though, based on readership.

Still, thanks, @Jacky, for setting aside one corner of the site to this world and time, and story, of Therese and Carol. Perhaps the style of that world alone will be enough to draw people in at some point. Will try to post soon.
