    Nobis Pacem Chapter 1

She audibly gasped as we left the entryway and walked past the short hall that led to the living room. Which was roughly the size of half a city block.

“Your apartment is more than twice the size of mine, so I’m a little confused, I’m afraid. Is your room on this level or do we go up the staircase?” she asked.

I stopped walking, and turned to look at her, reaching for my handbag. “You don’t have to stay, Christina.”

She reached out to wipe the tears that bathed my face with her thumbs.

“It’s “Chris” with friends,” she said with a small smile. “Upstairs?” she asked again before I could respond.

I bit my lower lip and nodded. She hooked her arm around mine, and we walked slowly toward the other end of the living room. We ascended the broad staircase one careful step at a time.

When we got to the second floor landing, I turned to her again, and said slowly “I, ah…um-“

“You don’t have to tell me anything,” she interrupted me. “Unless you want to, of course. But right now, you don’t know what’s up or down, what’s right or wrong, or even if it’s night or day. So you don’t have to say anything, Aerin. You can tell me when your thoughts are less chaotic, okay?”

She gave me a quick smile and I saw her sapphire eyes were full of warmth and sympathy.

We rounded the staircase, and I led her to my room, which was halfway down the hall.

She opened the door to my room, and when it swung open, the sensor once again triggered lights all around the room to switch on. Given that it was nearly one in the morning, all the lights were in the dim setting.

I walked to the bookcase a few feet from the door and picked up the remote control. I pointed it at the widescreen on the wall opposite my bed and selected a light setting that brightened the room.

She laid my bag on the bed and then walked to my bathroom. Its door had been slightly ajar, and light was spilling out of it. Soon, I heard water running in the bath, and a few minutes later, Christina …. Chris … walked towards where I remained standing in the middle of my bedroom, caught half-way in my trance, to grasp me lightly by the forearms. Again, I felt a tingle in the pit of my stomach at her gentle touch.

      • Here in spirit. But this is about a few special L words that play out in a couple’s life in another part of town. In the fringes of the world of the series I’ve been writing; but different. Hope you like it.

    1. Will try this again. Left a message about 4:00 this morning and something happened, it’s not posted. My message was to thank you for posting such a beautiful love story. And that I hope this story will be continued we would like to know what happens to Aerin in the future. Thanks for sharing.

    2. Dainty, Hellbent, and new friends: thanks for the comments. Honestly: was tough to pull this together, but it was worth it. Am v glad you liked it. Ok. I hear you. It may take a while for an update on her story, but it will be coming.

      • Well this was a pleasant surprise. I am always seeking an episode from your creativity. So much, I had to buy a smaller electronic device so that I might read your input on the go. Now, for me buying another electronic anything is saying a lot. I am one of the “dial phone” “get up and change the channel” “do not Text me and expect an answer” old school DIE HARD. But, your writing genius persuaded me to become a mobile reader at my neighborhood “coffee house.” Please continue to write

    3. Beautiful story. I could feel Aerin’s struggle. I would love to read about the 18 months in between their first time and Chris’ final moments. I sure it would be moving.
